What is selective logging ?
Answer:
This is logging that takes only mature trees out of the stand, instead of clear cutting it down to remove all the trees to get at the few that the companies really want. This selective logging removes the mature trees and allows the undergrowth to flourish as the canopy will be opened up to allow more sunlight down to the smaller trees and allow another growth without having to plant as many new trees.
Selective logging is also used to mimic the patterns of a light forest fire as most trees are not damaged during the fire. This mimicing allows for better management of the forest and also allows for better growing conditions for the smaller trees as the larger more mature trees are removed from competition giving the smaller trees a better chance to grow faster.
Hope that helps
its when they dont clear cut, but come in and take the trees they want. I guess its supposed to less destructive but it still makes a mess. Usually used in forests that are mixed hardwoods and softwoods and stuff.
i believe that is where some one goes in and marks only the trees that they want to cut down..then loggers cut them down...the national parks use it sometimes
selective logging is removing trees leaving ne or two trees intact, the cost for the operation is low, therefore more trees are cut, which also produces a lot of harm to the environment. very destructive. hope that helps!
Selective logging means that logging companies only harvest certain trees from a forest rather than the whole forest. Proponents of this say that this actually improves the forest by decreasing chances of fires and limiting erosion while allowing younger trees to have a better chance to thrive.
