Can everyone who has contributed here COMMIT to replacing 1 lightbulb with the new, long lasting kind?
Answer:
I will - I only have 1 or 2 lights that aren't already but I will make it a point to change those this week. Thanks for getting me motivated.
i can commit; just make this response a best answer so i can get that light bulb to show my commitment!
Ive already commited.I changed all of my bulbs to spiral bulbs
They are all we buy & most of my house has been converted already - even the vanities in the bathrooms - that's bright..
i started using CFLs back when they were first coming on the market seven or eight years ago. most of the bulbs i bought all the way back then still work and right after i made the switch my monthly electric bill dropped almost ten percent. the amount of money you save on replacing bulbs and electricity is reason alone to make the switch.
Mine were done ages ago already. saves quite a bit!
We already use a few of these in our home but will get one more just to help you out.
will you also calculate the amount of mercury that will go in our landfills from these bulbs?
and will you calculate how much my electric bill will go up?
here's a hint to get you started, if everyone conserves electricity, the power co. makes less money and the cost per kilowatt generation rises, which leads to an increase in rates.
so where is the savings?
Consider all the hazardous mercury in one bulb, first. Many times more than is recommended to be in a home by the EPA. You'll have to pay to dispose of burnt out bulbs and if it breaks, the clean-up will cost thousands of dollars.
I, for one, choose to TURN OFF ligh bulbs rather than introduce deadly poisons into my home.
I can do that every little bit helps
Yes I can. I have replaced 8 so far in the past month. With sales and price matching I was able to pick up pairs of bulbs for less than $4 per pack. (Less than $2 per bulb)
Already commited, all lightbulbs are low energy bulbs in my house, I went on a low energy saving frenzy!
My house is fitted with the spirally type light bulbs. They are "too" bright and sometimes annoying. Yet, they save me money when it comes my electric bill. I solved the bright white light "effect" by simply putting some yellow/tan shade.
Have already replaced half of the lights in my house with the compact fluorescents, including the one on my porch.
yep
I have committted. I have been changing all of our lights in our house to the new bulbs. Not only do they save but they also brighten up the rooms. I put them in my oldest daughter's room, went from dark gloomy to bright and cheerful like she is. She loved the change.
No.
I'm going out and buying high-wattage incandescent bulbs, and with every trip to the store, I'm buying more incandescent bulbs, needed or not.
You sissy enviroweenies smugly think you're such good people because you're doing what the "global community" wants you to do.
You're submitting to the effort to control you.
I've already replaced all the lightbulbs in my house with the more energy efficient bulbs. I committed to it through John Edwards' website.
Already converted all the bulbs to CFLs, and will continue to do so, this is my pledge. I would however like to know if any UK retailers stock candle bulb CFLs, tesco and a few others I have checked don't, I know most companies manufacture them (just to please the mother) but I can't find them in store.
Langsuyar: Since you have no CFLs for mercury reasons, I hope you have no fillings in your mouth (100x a CFL in mercury content), a cell phone or that monitor your looking at ... they each are likely to contain more mercury than all the CFLs in the average CFL home.
But yes ... we should also all pledge to recycle all our CLFs too.

Already changed all mine. =)
I have replaced 10 light bulbs in my house with CFLs.
I have already committed and replaced all but maybe two of my lightbulbs. When they burn out, they'll definitely be replaced also.
Peace!

FunQA.coms is offering to send people 1 free long lasting, light bulb if you sign up for it and another light for every 500 "green points" you get til some time in June.
I signed up for it and when I get my free bulb I will use it. If I like it, then I will start buying that kind to replace my bulbs as they burn out.
Been using them since '98. I have 12 fixture bulbs in my house, 11 are CFL and 1 is a funny size I can't get a CFL for. In 3 years, 1 bulb failure.
I changed my light bulbs 2 years ago. and i can tell you it has proven to be a savings. i also just recently purchased a new upright freezer energy star rated. my old freezer still ran great but was 30 years old. Do you know my electric bill dropped 20 dollars in just 2 weeks. I could not believe it but i figured its because the old freezer was not energy efficient. Even though the old freezer was a manual defrost and this is self defrosting it has a better rating.Another smart move to lower costs. I did a lot of homework before i made my choice and I'm glad i did.
all lights in our home have them!
I already have the long lasting light bulbs in the house! Yes they do work well. Besides saveing energy, and money for the electric bill I havent had to but a light bulb in a very long time. Before I started useing them we were buying regular bulbs every other month.
just to let you know that every light bulb in my house is a longer lasting, has been for about five years.
Sure just as soon as our speaker of the house quits taking the fact finding trips and wants a bigger jet to fly home. (Southwest goes both ways.) the amount of energy she used to go to the middle east would surprise a lot of people also..a solution to that is ma bell.
can't committ to what I already use
