How concerned are you about global warming affecting you?

Answer:
According to the best estimates we would need to reduce carbon dioxide emissions worl wide to less than one tenth of what they are today if we are to have any chance at all of stopping Global Warming.

We would have to shut down the economies of all of the countries world wide to accomplish that.

That is completely unrealistic.

We must accept the fact that Global Warming is a part of modern life.

What we must do is plan to mitigate the effects of Global Warming.

The sea levels will rise.

Fortunately coastal areas can be protected from flooding by the use of dike systems similar to those in Holland that are used to hold back the sea.

Hurricanes will become stronger and more frequent.

We must help the affected countries upgrade their disaster preparedness systems.

Droughts will become more frequent. We must help the affected countries with supplemental water supplies and desalination plants.

We cannot prevent Global Warming, but we can mitigate the effects of Global Warming at reasonable cost if we start now.
if i believed in it, i would be concerned. i do believe we should be more environmentally friendly though. all i gotta say is Al gore is just a corrupting bastard trying to manipulate people into believing everything he says. but thats just me.
Looking forward to warmer winters in the midwest...
Not much. I'm an old guy.

But I'm very worried about it affecting you.

Yes, there have been natural climate changes in the past. But our production of greenhouse gases is huge and it's overpowering nature.

If you include greenhouse gases in the analysis, you can get a good match to observed data, and the result shows that, for the last 40 years, greenhouse gases are the most important factor.

If you include only natural factors in the analysis you can't match the data. That's why "quantitative" is the key word in the following quote:

"There's a better scientific consensus on this [climate change] than on any issue I know... Global warming is almost a no-brainer at this point. You really can't find intelligent, quantitative arguments to make it go away."

"climate science from climate scientists"
Not in the least. The entire thesis of warming due to human activity is in doubt; it is not proved, and not provable.
that the world would overheat and it would melt glaicers and ice down in antartica and would go into the ocean and flood over the lands Africa,Asia,etc.,etc.
I am really worried about it!! I might never get my car! There is so much in life i haven't done yet!! I hate global warming!! I wish we could stop it, b 4 u know it, Antarctica will be a vacation resort 4 retired elderly people! And that's cuz they cant stand the heat!! And i live in a desert, so it's even hotter!
This concerned (see link)
I wish it would affect me when it's 30 below and my car won't start.
I am a teenager, and I am very worried. I know tons of people my age are worried, and do whatever we can to slow it down. It's hard when theres not much you can do. I see our earth just ruined, and it crushes me. I think by law "an unconvient truth" should to required to area at ALL schools. For the people my age who don't know about it.

PLEASE FORGET SELFISHNESS. Selfishness has taken its toll.
The present system of selfish society has to be amended/corrected to delete the word ‘SELFISHNESS’.

Convinced. Scale of one to ten = 9 we have no choice but to take action now.
Global warming does not exist so it doesn't affect me. Maybe if i choose to have kids, the normal warming cycle the earth is going through might affect them but not very much, so what do i care?
Very. I try so hard to recycle and to stay environmentally friendly.

Especially in the city i live in it is hard because my local government is not providing anything that i can use to try and recycle things. My local government should provide recycling facilities that are easy to use and reach. Britain is so behind compared to other European countries who actually have bottles which you can bring back and get money for it. One way of recycling it. I have lived in the Netherlands and for me i had the best out of it. When i moved to England it was all different and there wasn't any of that. We are very behind over here.
Basically what you have a theory that has not been proved. The study of climate science is in its infancy. You have a group of people who think it is wise not to risk it, and besides even if it is not true they say, it can not hurt to reduce co2 emissions. So these people are going around proclaiming dooms day in an effort to scare you into supporting their cause.

Al Gore has even admitted this in public:

Q. There's a lot of debate right now over the best way to communicate about global warming and get people motivated. Do you scare people or give them hope? What's the right mix?

A. I think the answer to that depends on where your audience's head is. In the United States of America, unfortunately we still live in a bubble of unreality. And the Category 5 denial is an enormous obstacle to any discussion of solutions. Nobody is interested in solutions if they don't think there's a problem. Given that starting point, I believe it is appropriate to have an over-representation of factual presentations on how dangerous it is, as a predicate for opening up the audience to listen to what the solutions are, and how hopeful it is that we are going to solve this crisis.

Others have as well:

Scientist’s need “to get some broader based
support, to capture the public’s imagination...that,
of course, entails getting loads of media coverage.
So we have to offer up scary scenarios, make
simplified dramatic statements, and make little
mention of any doubts we may have…each of us
has to decide what the right balance is between
being effective and being honest.

Extremely concerned & more concerned about the fact that governments don't want to acknowledge it mainly because it would have a negative impact on the economy.

Their short sightedness is very scary.
Very much and for future generations. Here is a way to help stop it and this won't cost you a penny but it will make a huge difference
The raising of cattle for beef consumption causes more global warming than all of the cars exhaust on this planet. It starts with thousands of sq. miles of tropical rainforest being cut down and burned to raise much of the cattle. Then the amount of methane gas(a global warming gas) that is expelled by cattle. 100 million tons of methane gas a year is expelled by cattle just in the U.S. alone. The amount of water to raise these cattle is beyond belief also. It takes about 20 acres of land a year to supply the protein a person needs by eating beef and over 2500 gallons of water. For a vegetarian it takes 1 acre of land to supply the protein they need for one year and about 40 gallons of water. Stop eating beef and you will be doing more to stop global warming than many other opitions.
I don't believe in global warming, but a temporary climate trend might have some bad effects for a while.
it will be a switch over thats 4 sure
