My monarch caterpillar is around the time of making his cacoon. My mom said it was crawling near the top of hte jar, and let it crawl on a chop stick so that it wouldn't fall (AS IF). Now, because of what she did, it can't wait any longer, and is making it's cacoon below a leaf. I thought they had to be in a J shape when they do this, but because he's on the underside of the leaf, he won't have room to do that. However, he is continuing making his cacoon almost touching the bottom of the jar, and it attached to the leaf flat, rather then by the end of himself in a J shape.
Is it fine to just leave it there, or do I have to do something? Please tell me what to do if he can't resume making his cacoon where/how he is.
hurry and thanks
Answer:
They know what they are doing, so don't worry.
He thinks it is a good spot. Leave him alone.
It is ok to let it be where it is.it will be all right.
.I have had a couple of butterflies born in butterfly kits that include the caterpillars and a butterfly space for them and the kits also had some instructions on caring for them.
...and it said if the cocoons should fall from the leaf it was even ok to just let it rest on the ground..
Bad Caterpillar! I think nature has provided this little creature the necessary skills with which to provide itsself a cozy little cacoon. Leave it alone lest ye hamper its very survival.
