Should McDonalds, BK and other fast food restaurants serve (sit in) food on plates and drinks in glasses?
Answer:
The food service standards for serving on real table ware can be complex, depending on country, state and region. Sometimes, complying with all of those different rules can be extremely burdensome to a company as widely spread as McDonalds. Not to mention the franchises need to keep consistent branding across the board, etc.
Yes, perhaps mall food courts and fast food restaurants should begin to serve on table ware. Consumers would bear the cost of converting, expanding the restaurant to accomodate the equipment and so forth. It would change the standards of fast food to be... medium fast food, or medium slow food, because serving on table ware takes more time and care.
Should, yes. Going to... I don't know. I'm just glad that the styrofoam containers went away, it was a step in the right direction.
it would no longer be fast food if you couldn't get it too go.
I don't think so because it is going to cost more. They are going to have to hire people to wash those dishes.
I often find it difficult to distinguish between the food and the packaging.
That's their choice to make. The added space, manpower, supplies, and equipment needed to wash and store the dishes would negate any savings.not to mention the increased likelihood of unsanitary conditions.
bacteria bacteria bacteria.. especially when fast food is designed to be "fast and conveneint"..when would there be time to properly sanitize and wouldnt this possibly be an increase in employees?
No. They wouldn't be fast food restaurants if they did that.
cheeseburger on porcelain would look.differently
Wouldn,t the cost just about even out, using regular plates, glasses etc. YOU will have higher H2O bills, electricity and cost of dishwasher etc. All those new costs must be figured in. Then you may have to even hire another employee to run/do that particular job. All in all you might not be saving that much.
I dont think these type of fast food places should serve food on plates and glasses. This wouldnt make these places "fast food", their image is cheap n cheerful food.
They would have to pay people to wash the dishes or spend a fortune installing dishwashers.
This would prob make them up their costs and less people would eat there.
On one hand you have the packaging destroying the tree's or if you used crockery/cutlery you would use more water.
I reckon if it aint broke dont try to fix it personally! :)
Let's be creative. There are several types of compostable dishes and flatware available now, made from corn plastic. Anything made with plastic can be made with corn plastic. Make them switch to 100% compostable materials, so the trash doesn't harm the environment. Get them to start composting their waste. Hospitals, schools, and prisons all over the country are already doing this.
Setting them up with dishes and flatware causes more problems than it solves. Think of composting as the "new" recycling.
I think that if they converted to cardboard trays and plates like the local schools have it would be better. They could have special trash receptacles to place anything cardboard in and it could be recycled. They could get a credit for recycling and it would save the environment.
I think they should try and cut back on unreuseable materials by asking customers if they would like to eat in on plates and glasses but have the same style food.
Maybe a small reward for eating in?
