How do you recycle OR dispose of a "expired " child car seat?

The opinion is that expired car seats (those that are older than 6 or 10 yrs old - depending on the manufacture) should not be use, even if they are in good condition. So how should a parent recycle or dispose of this type of expired product??

Answer:
Destroy them. I've heard of people running over them with their car to break them. No one will take them, and they shouldn't. It's not safe, but if you just leave it by a dumpster or something, someone will use it anyways. So find a way to mess it up and then see if you can maybe recycle the plastic?
Well, I know Salvation Army won't take them - Good will probably won't either.
Is it a law that they can't be reused after that age? If not, contact a non profit that accepts donations. They can probably give it to someone that deserves it (provided its still safe to use, etc.) Otherwise, break it down and throw it away piece by piece.
You can make the car seat into a carriage. If your husband is handy, ask him to design a way to affix wheels onto it with a handle to push and pull it. This will give the car seat more 'life' so to speak.

As for disposing of it entirely, ask the head of your local transfer station.
toss it in the burn barrel
Thrift stores will NOT take old car seats, nor will they give away old car seats. All the charities I work with pitch those suckers straight in the dumpster ~ even if they look like they are in good shape. The district health department, most hospitals and even a few police stations will give away brand new car seats to those in need.

You can call your local recycling center to see if the plastic can be recycled (I somehow doubt it). Rolling over it with a truck is a good idea.
I actually hung onto mine for a few years for visiting infants. It gave them a place to hang out while their moms and I visited.
Throw it in the trash.
clean it up real good, and contact the OB ward of your local hospital. many times they can find someone that needs one.
Put it at the recycling centre, they'll know what to do with it... I guess... Or better, send it to the hospitals and see if they know what to do with it...
