This may seem silly but I am serious.?

I have allergies bad and everyday I go through a sneezing spell so I have been wondering, Is it better to throw away my tissues or flush them?

Now, as far as flushing goes of course I would wait until using the restroom to do so, so as not to waste more water of course.

What do you think? Laugh first I know but I am serious and it is another simple small thing I can do to help if I do it the right way.

Answer:
I don't think handkerchief is good idea. A lot of people has a misconception that reusing something must be better. They are nasty and take up a lot of water and detergent to clean! The energy needed to renew those water is far greater than the impact of tissue paper.

This problem is similar to diapers and swifer debates.

If the area you live in has a water shortage, go with the one that uses less water. Handkerchief would be a really bad idea because it requires a lot of water for washing. Flushing may be alright, since you are not using additional water.

If your areas is in a landfill crisis, it's better to produce less solid waste. So flushing may be a better choice. But it really depends on your local waste management on how they handle wastes.

You should try treating your allergies. Mine was really bad a few years ago, and it's all better now that I have lowered my stress level, increase vitamin intakes and reduced meat consumption. I also moved to a carpet-free place. It is known fact that N. Americans suffer more allergies than Europeans because of the love of carpets. I hope it'll all be better for you. Good luck!
I would think that flushing would be better because they will break down much faster by going into the sewer system than they would by going the trash dump.
It would be better to throw away your used tissues rather than flushing them. Aside from not wasting water, it is never advisable to flush them in the toilet. As of this moment more than ever, water conservation is a much more serious concern as well.
I hadn't ever thought about this, but I think you should flush them. If you just toss them they go into a landfill, and really don't make any good contribution because they're probably mixed in with plastics, chemicals, etc. and they just decompose. If you flush them, however, they go to a sewage treatment plant, and because they are mixed with other organic material (biosolids), they can be recycled into some productive material, like fertilizer, or burnable fuel even.

use a handkerchief and wash it frequently, no issue then
compost them is the best

Organic waste is responsible for 70% of contamination in Land fills if it goes out with the trash ,so please do not do this,
the organics ferment mix with dangerous metals and leech contaminants down into subteranean water suplies ,or streams for many thousands of years

Burning is the worst you can do.
trash includes plastics ,and worst of all styrofoam ,
the smoke from this is pure poison for the air one of the greatest factors towards aipolution like burning tires
please dont burn trash

and leaves are the trees way of making top soil
one should never burn leaves but place them around trees to add to their food

or use them to make compost

a general note on compost

bones,treetrunks,cardboard,egg... clothes(if they are organic),poop,leaves,kitchen waste,foodscraps,newspaper,
and kitty litter

All can be put on the compost heap

as long as you seal it with a covering of leaves .or put a piece of plastic on top ,
keep it moist and in the shade ,it will then get hot enough to kill all parasites

the worms will devellop, and take care of everything ,the moisture helps decomposition

the plastic keeps in the moisture and protects the worms from predators .like chickens ,birds armadillos, and even dogs .i have seen going in to eat my worm culture

you could add a bit of lime now and again
to make the process more potent

HOW
make the compost in a shallow hole ,so that it retains more humidity,
about 2 square meters is good ,and have it under a tree or put a little roof over i t,which does not have to be water proof ,so a palm thatch is enough,

and makesure the garden sprinkler gets there or spray some water on it ,at least once a week, dont have it water logged or the worms will drown or leave

RECYCLING
Cardboard is also acceptable for recycling

so is glass if you classify it in colors, and
aluminium cans
you are right. and you are serious, too. very serious. talk to someone.
If you want to "be green" then get some hankies and toss them in the wash when you do laundry.

They can be composted or buried.
Use hankies, they are reusable and you can get some with cute designs on them....... ;)
