Don't laugh; try a toothpaste made with baking soda (like Arm & Hammer) and an old toothbrush, rinse and dry..then spray very lightly with Pam or other oil and polish dry. You will not only have gorgeous tile AND grout but it should stay clean a lot longer. Good luck and God bless
lemon juice? i heard that one
i havent tried that because im a bleach queen
use lime a way
Non-bleach mildew remover:
1 cup white vinegar
1 cup Borax powder (available at any grocery store etc.)
2 cups warm water
Mix ingredients in a bucket or in a spray bottle. Apply to the mildew spot and leave it on for 10 minutes. Rinse afterwards.
Yes, soap and water cleans pretty much every house hold mess! Just scrub.

I am curious why you can't use bleach? I have chemical sensitivity and find many cleaning products to be detrimental to my health. I use simple soaps to clean. If the mold does not respond to soap... then try vinegar, lemon juice, salt, baking soda... those are my favorites. Usually keeping an area dry as possible helps keep mold from growing again. I would look for any leaks and have the landlord repair it if possible. Keeping a window open or a door if the window won't open can help with air flow to prevent mold growth too.

heh, bumper crop :)
I have the same problem, though. I usually rinse the tile with very hot water, then I put a bit of baking soda on an old toothbrush (the firmer kind works the best) and scrub the grout, then rinse again with hot water. The mildew usually comes off pretty easily. I've also used Mr. Clean Magic Erasers, which work very well with out having to use harsh chemicals. I've found that it cleans well with just water.
Sodium percarbonate mixed with water. it is a detergent that is peroxide based. peroxide may work but may require more applications.
also ozonated water (water high in O3) works real well.
a more preventative method would be to increase circulation via a fan or some other measure, after showering to remove excess moisture.
spray mildew with a vinegar water solution and wipe right off.

Try greased lightning. They should have it at dollar stores or wal-mart.
i use to watch queen of clean, and she always showed good ways to clean w/o useing bleach, so a good thing to use is vinegar because of the acidic levels in it, plus it is a deoderizor and a good disinfectant so is pure lemon juice, TRUST ME they are both great..
