Could scenes from the film ' The day after tomorrow' ever happen?

Answer:
Sadly the movie "The Day After Tomorrow" is an example of the media hype, exaggerations and fabrication associated with the topic of Global Warming.

Actually the science on Global Warming in very good.

Unfortunately people who are hostile to addressing the subject of Global Warming use the ridiculous exagerration and fabrication in movies such as "The Day After Tomorrow" to damage the credibility of serious scientists who do solid research on the subject of Global Warming.

Ridiculous movies such as "The Day After Tomorrow" do far more harm than good with respect to the general knowledge and awareness of Global Warming among members of the lay public.
Nope. It's just a movie.

Global warming could disrupt ocean currents and cause cooling an a few places. It will take years, not days, and it won't be more than a few degrees. Maybe enough to damage agriculture in Europe, not enough to kll anybody.
Not a question of can..More a question of when...
I think yes indeed...perhaps not to the exact same extent but certainly not a far cry from reality.

the ice caps are melting and this will cause the water levels to rise etc etc, i needn't go on as i don't want to worry people. There are a lot of films being made and have been made over the last few years that have hidden messages to mankind about the earth, aliens, global warming, goverment blunders and conspiracy theories!

Subliminal messages are designed to make us think that the things "could" happen and it's the governments way of telling us indirectly without causing widespread fear!
it is happening
run run run hurry
Not anymore than the scenes from 'Independence Day' or 'The Terminator' could happen.
Over a period of 10's of thousands of years, in a period as shown, only in al gore's mind.
I hope not!
Mind you the way the climate is changing it is only a matter of when.
Start stocking up on tin food and fuel to burn to keep warm!!
Drastic climate shifts like the one in the movie are possible, but not in matter of days or hours like the movie implies. That's a totally absurd scenario.

If however the gulf streams north atlantic warm water engine shifts far south or diminishes drastically over time, the climate of the Northeastern US, Iceland and Northern Europe will get much colder fast. Fast in climatic terms though is a few years not days. That couldn't happen
unfortunately yes
I don't see why not ?, too many people are taking what we have on this earth for granted and have become complacent !.

Nothing is guaranteed and all it takes is a rise in temperatures and the land based ice mass to melt to cause severe flooding, or a giant volcano to erupt and cover the earth in a blanket of dust and the temperatures will plummet !.

So many things could go wrong in a very short space of time, and we are no way prepared for any of it ?.
Climate change is all around us, just look at the UK weather this year, it may not happen in our lifetime but it will happen eventually unless we all start protecting our planet, their will be no hero's at the end of the day only survivors of the big freeze, some countries have already experienced colder fronts.
Sure, lets all live in fear, when global warming is not even true.
No.

Let's just say that climate scientists who went to see the movie had a good laugh.
No they couldn't. The film takes the science of global warming and climate change and distorts it into nothing more than a Hollywood movie. The principles have their basis in science but such catastrophic events aren't even remotely possible. Some of the events depicted couldn't happen, other could happen but over a period of decades or centuries, not a matter of days.
I think the real fear is that scenes from 'Titanic' could ever come true.

Firstly, who in their right mind would build a ship THAT old-looking. I mean jeeeeeeeeez get with the times man!

Secondly, why would those people dress so old fashioned? The only place you find them clothes is on dead people! But they dead! So you can't have them on a boat! Or drowning! Cos they dead! Like 6 feet under!

That's pretty much a nightmare to me, that and Kate Winslets dress - it just clashes with her complexion.

Never
Arm
Respectable
K-nothing for K, sorry!
Honestly, I think it's well on it's way to happening. There's so much destruction going on right now and the planet is going to fight back. It already has been fighting though...like the tsunami and couple of years ago. I think we're well on our way to our own demise.
I sure hope not.
No.

But it wouldn't have been as fantastic if it took the great number of years that such events normally occur in.

Could such events take place over YOUR lifetime - yes, in principle, but not likely to the degree depicted in the movie.
Yes, they will, the more people say it won't the dumber they are.
You've been warned, when you're freezing to death or drowning in water, then you'll realise that you were wrong all those years ago... and you could have tried to changed the consequences.but you didn't because you weren't bothered to.
I hate these people who keep saying Global Warming is a movie.

Actually it's three movies - Day After Tomorrow, Waterworld, and Al Gore's movie.
No, it's a movie, it's fiction and not particularly good fiction. You need to look somewhere other than Hollywood for factual information.
I believe we will go through another catastrophic, world changing weather event. As we evolve, so do our needs. When this event takes place, only the strong will survive. It is truly "survival of the fittest".
IF THE GLASER'S KEEP MOVING IN THE SAME SPEED AND KEEP GOING THE SAME WAY,THEY COULD GET STUCK IN THE HARBER THERE IN NY.If this happens the tides can't go back out 2 warm up
