Why is there a ban on clothes lines in Toronto, Ontario Canada ?
Answer:
The ban on clothes lines is for three main reasons.
#1 - City counsellors think they look ugly (ie: not very modern, and somewhat of an eyesore)
#2 - Cuts down on crime. Stealing of clothes (particularly underclothes & lingerie!) is what happens a lot in urban areas that have clothes lines. Not to mention people stealing the lines themselves (for use in committing crimes!)
#3 - Many living places are rentals only in the T.O. area. Space is limited, so when a person puts up a clothesline, they are usually taking up either a public space or someone else's space. This cannot be allowed or else someone will get hurt...
Best suggestion, if you have a place that you own, or a private balcony or backyard... go ahead and use a clothesline. Just remember to take it down when you are finished for the day. It's better for the environment, better for your clothes, better for you. If anyone else has a problem with it, it's on your property, so it's none of their business!
I had no idea that there was. What is the fine is you have one?? Air drying clothes is one of the best ways to save energy and help the planet. If they are banned, that is a bit ridiculous and that law needs to be overturned!
visual pollution!
