Is freecycle a fab or a hell?
many ex. moderators are saying the reason this has happend to them personally is because they started to ask questions about the way freecycle is run and it also apeers that freecycle head are taking government payments while there are volenteers offering their time for these groups with no money involved
this in it's self is capitalism from deron beale as he is recieving cash for our trash while good hearted people are trying to help save the landfill's is he doing the same thing? while recieving cash and turning freecycle in to a company?
Answer:
Firstly I am not sure that Freecycle as an organisation has received any "Government" funding but it definately has received to date over $200,000 dollars from Waste management inc. This company has had previous fines in the USA for dumping toxic waste so really is not a suitable sponsor.
It has been reported on groups such as FCnext by both current and ex moderators of Freecycle groups that they have been subjected to bullying tactics by both Deron Beal and members of the Freecycle heirarchy and that Freecycle is currently using a finder addy to copy member details and post details onto a list to be used on their new main website. This is not only against Yahoo's terms of contract but is being done without the explicit consent of members promtping concern of data protection and the potential for marketing lists etc.
It is common knowledge that Deron Beal is currently making in excess of $45,000.00 per year as a result of claiming that Freecycle is keeping X amount of rubbish out of landfill. Local council grants in the UK are being applied for but will the money remian within the communities it is gained from or will it be taken back to the USA and used for the current legal battles the Freecyel has commenced to secure a trademark in both UK and USA making Freecycle a corporate body.
It has also been reported that Deron Beal has the intention that once he can prove he owns all local groups by having them on his own website he wil place Freecycle up for sale.
Politically I have no comment to make about freecycle, because I don't believe I know enough of the facts to form an opinion. On a purely practical level though, and based on my personal experience of it, its great.
i use to support freecycle but left after finding out for myself. i found that out years ago as a former member freecycle is about the money.
But freecycle doesn't make any money, I can't see how. Anyway, I don't really use freecycle much nowadays, I don't like giving out my info to strangers or meeting up with people and I always get a little nervous before meeting them. It doesn't really feel safe.
