Well its 2007 and New York and other coastal cities are not underwater, Global Warming?
the proponents of global warming were yelling the sea's would rise and coastal cities would be flooded.
We would be out of oil because we only had enough to last 20 years.
80 to 90% of the earth would be Barren.
I'm just not seeing it.
Answer:
There have been floods, droughts, tornadoes and storms, earthquakes for thousands of years. And there have been melting ice caps and freezing lands for thousands of years.
There was a mini-ice age back in middle ages for couple hundred years, so bad that even snow didn't melt all thru summertime in northern climates.
It's easy to get hyped up on disaster and doom, because the people who are screaming about it are getting big $$$ from it all.
I also think it's incredibly egotistical of man to think that he can kill off the planet so easily. All it takes is one volcano to erupt and slightly change the whole weather patterns around the world with the dust it throws into the air. So man's effect upon the planet is miniscule compared to if nature wants to speak up.
Nature affects the world's condition incredibly faster than anything man can do. We've been industrialized for about 150 years, and the effects are slowly coming. All it takes is a good hurricane or tsunami to completely change certain areas of the landscape beyond recognition.
I specifically remember back in the 1970's, when everyone was yelling and screaming that another ice age was coming, that man's progress upon the planet was going to doom us with glaciers down past Chicago. Now they're saying we're going to burn up from lack of ozone. Please make up your mind.
That's not to say that man doesn't have any effect. Cleaner cars means that the big cities aren't as smoggy as they used to be. But with such modern technology as is being created and utilized nowadays, the problem isn't the US or England or modern countries making problems, it's the 3rd world countries who don't have pollution controls, who don't handle their manufacturing wastes, who just dump their trash and byproducts into the ground or water without treatment. They are the ones that are hurting the earth more than we are.
Having lived for the past several decades, I've seen how the scientific community can be swayed so easily once they get a cause to their liking. (When I was a kid, the dental association couldn't even decide the best way to brush your teeth, changing every couple years!!)
It's easy to get so hyped up with worry and fear, but when you manage to get away from all that fear, you can realize that the world is not anywhere near complete annihilation.
The younger generations have it so much incredibly better than when I was a kid, because there is so much amazing technology to accomplish things today. There is so much inventiveness, so many new compounds, so many new ways of doing things that will make less pollution, use less energy, make life so much easier to enjoy. You kids really do have incredible lives ahead of you; please don't be afraid to enjoy them.
No they weren't. A couple of them predicted the flooding of coastal cities sometime within the next century. Nobody said anything about 2007.
Let me see the sources on that. On the off chance you find true scientists saying that they were using 20+ year old technology and ideas.
If you can't see the affects around us then you're blind. Look at all the major storm events, the droughts, the floods, the melting ice caps, the unusually high temperatures, the loss of species at over 50 million times faster than the backround extinction rate (not just climate change). I could keep going if you want.
Even Bush finally admitted it. He sure as h*ll won't do anything about it but he admitted it. What more do you need?
Have you been out West lately? It's parched. In LA we haven't even gotten 3.5 inches of rain this past year, the lowest amount in LA's recorded history. The water source for a lot of the Southwest, Lake Powell, is 43% below capacity. Why? We haven't gotten any rain and there hasn't been enough snow fall in the Sierra Madres.
Egotistical of man to think he can wipe out a planet so easily? What about nuclear war?
I work for an environmental services company and I can assure you my dear friend you don't want to live on or near a Super Fund site. There are some horrible chemicals that mankind has created for various uses and if they are not cleaned up properly they kill off animals, fish and the vegetation around. Let alone the cancer that it can cause.
I think the inevitable answer will be YET!
The place I'd be worried about is Dubai...especially those man made islands!
I am not seeing it either. My job relies on hot weather, the warmer the better, so I notice these things. The 90's were definitely a lot warmer than this decade.
But then again that is why I am purposely trying to mislead people. I am such an evil S.O.B. that I do not care about destroying all of humanity for a couple of thousand dollars, just like all those scientists who are in the pockets of big oil.
I don't remember anything about 2007. Any predictions I've heard were more in the 22nd century. However, if Greenland and other major bodies of ice were to melt, there is no doubt in my mind some major coastal areas would see serious flooding problems.
Well in the 80's they didnt have the technolgy we have today. But it is possible that the coastal cities in the future. But if we keep going the way were going we will see the coastal underwater.
No, they didn't say that New York would be flooded in 2007. That's a massive straw man.
