Wineries expanding in California: Environmental no-no? Can I still enjoy a glass without guilt?

If they were removing woodland to put up parking lots or highrises, I would definitely agree with your sentiment.
But as it is, they are removing one plantlife to replace it with another.
Now it would be cooler if they could retain some of that forest, perhaps thinned somewhat, while planting between trees or something.
Go for hometown wineries that probably take up less land area and are more accountable. You can actually visit them to see how they do their business.
