What will be the carbon footprint for London of the Olympics?
Surely, if we believe that Global Warming is such a big problem and we want to lead the world in fighting it and tax the hell out of our own people to achieve this. Our government should be setting an example to the world and cancel this unnecessary event in the name of saving the planet? Or is our government to hypocritical to practice what it preaches? “Do as I say, not as I do” like most of the pop stars at Live Earth.
Answer:
HUGE FOOTPRINT. The UK can only control the UK. There are gonna be people driving and flying from everywhere. not to mention 90% of the world is gonna be watching on tv's.
If we follow this global warming scare to its logical conclusion, then virtually all human activity as we now know it must cease, thereby bringing life to a complete halt. My humble suggestion is that we can continue with business as usual, but take the following precaution: Photosynthesis is nature's way of recycling atmospheric carbon dioxide. Since we are now supposed to be producing more of this gas than nature can handle, let us assist nature in its task by engaging in MASSIVE AFFORESTATION programmes everywhere in the world. Most of the world's natural forests are losing their vegetative cover as a result of human encroachment. If we can plant more trees to even cover deserts, we may give the planet a new lease of life, at least for a while. There is no other way we can reduce co2 emissions by humans other than afforestation, so let us turn the world's many deserts into forests. This will certainly be a more useful exercise than organising global warming concert shows.
They'll write off the entire carbon emitting orgy by just proclaiming in advance that each ticket includes a surcharge for buying carbon credits, plus they'll cover the place with recycling bins and THINK GREEN banners and announce they're "creating awareness".
Oh it had to be said. Well done! Yes if global warming is such an "issue" then of course this unnecessary event should be cancelled. It of course won't be because there are very large sums of money to be made by IOC officials, developers, business etc. Lets hope they empty their dustbins whilst the event goes on otherwise they will sink in a pile of rubbish, which perhaps on second thoughts wouldn't be a bad idea.
We better cancel.
