Would you prefer to wear casual wear this summer instead of standard business clothing?
In Canada they are encouraging workers to "go casual" in effort to reduce energy used for air conditioning.
what is your take on this matter?
Should we adapt this concept here in the USA also?
What other savings can we find from this?
Why is this not a good thing if you feel it is not?

Answer:
Honestly I think Business should be done casually not in hundred to thousand dollar suits. How does a suit help you run a business seriously, what jerk thought that one up. I'm thinking nice shoes, nice jeans and a nice shirt. I know there's a name for it but I cant remember right now. but yeah I think if people wore casual and drank the right amount of water every day it would reduce cost on air conditioning.
I think this is a great idea, although I'm not sure just how much energy we would save from not wearing suits. Are suits really that hot? Can't you just take the jacket off? And women's suits can be Skirts which are lighter anyway. I prefer to be comfortable at work but you still need to look professional. Also, OSHA standards prohibit things like open toed shoes, loose skirts/shirts in some occupations. So this would definitely have to be a decision made by each individual company.
Lets just not wear cloths at all !
I'm all for it. I work with air pollution regulations every day. I've forwarded this onto my boss... I want to wear shorts and flip flops to work. :)
It really does make sense though. Our office is 67 degrees every day and right now it's 87 outside. Even letting it up to 74 would be a big savings. Both to the taxpayers and the environment. I say as long as you're not going into a meeting where, business casual would be acceptable, casual would be fine. I know I'm not going to offend anyone from my cubicle.
awesome idea lets do it im really really sure that noone would really mind if we didnt wear suits and hot clothing in the heat and yes it would help energy costs. and more people would feel less intimitaded by the suities too. lets just be ourselves in what we are comfortable in .
I'm very fortunate because even though I talk to people from all over the globe no one ever sees me. My company is really great about not having a rigid dress code. We can wear whatever we want, we have flex hours too and can usually get time off for family activities such as graduations or even if a family member or friend comes to visit us we can take time off. The relaxed dress code helps us do a better job because we are more comfortable and don't have to stress about what we are wearing. We adjust our clothing to the temperature instead of the other way around. We save money on energy and also we recycle every scrap of paper we use. Happy employees do a better job, save money, save the environment.
It's a very valid idea. We should dress for the times we live in. Using less energy as a result of less A/C is a very good idea.
I wrote a book thingy, there I wrote sarcastically of Washington being a place of latitude and longitude, a point of zero/zero and the the equator set to Washington, and the rest of the Earth's rotation is an illusion. All clocks are to be set to the exact same time around the world, and dress code
is a highly recommended coat in the Winter and t-shirts in the Summer and no false illusions! You know, Bush.
At my work place, it has over a hundred fifty computers so we need the air to keep the humidity down. we are able to wear casual as long as it is clean and no holes. shorts can be worn Friday through Monday. unless we have potential clients visiting. only the "big wigs" were business casual during the week but on weekends they go very casual. for the most part the temp in our building is some where between 74 and 76 degrees.
