Is anyone doing anything for global warming?
Answer:
you are so wrong it is not even funny.
this is a well known fact, but people like you refuse to see it: ok are u ready? this is big... one volcano eruption emits the same amount of "greenhouse gases" as the buildup of 50 years worth of car pollution.
now, hows that for evidence.
maybe, if you want to help stop global warming on a " large scale", here's my advice:
take that big old cork shoved up your butt, and take a couple of friends and shove it down an active volcano.
also, stop telling me what to do! you are not the boss of me, or nature, and btw, stop breathing out so much (thats co2), tell the sun that is needs to stop being hot, and if it doesn't listen, push earth farther away from it.
oh, and also, check out some facts, back in medieval times, it got way hotter than it does now, and if a couple polar bears die, who cares? what happened to Darwin and his theory?!!
i bout a tree that save the Amazon rain forest.comor phone for $53.00us or $65.00 canadaian.
Oh wah. Stop making such pathetic over-generalizations that everyone is lazy. The global warming "crisis" is not the crisis so many enviro-freaks make it out to be. A concern? Yes. Crisis? No.
Now, it's 4th of July. Kick back, have a beer (if you're legal) or some lemonade and enjoy the day. I'm enjoying my day off in my wonderfully cooled apartment. A/C is flippin great.
Tell farmers about sustainable farming ,water harvesting and organic pest control,
Talk to kids about Environmental awareness
I have made a lot of gardens
I answer in yahoo
I have planted thousands of trees by now
And i have worked for 30 years +
develloping eco tourism ,and selfsustainable human and animal environments.
And send this message a lot and
------------------------------...

global warming cannot be stopped but we can stop helping it becoming faster, and being friendlier to out Environment cannot be bad
-----------------------------.
The best we can do as individuals is be more responsible ,in our own neck of the woods
Organise well publicized clean up parties ,talk on the radio
Have citizan meetings
Get the shools involved to plant trees and listen to environmental awareness talks,
If you do any cleaning up leave signs behind saying who cleaned, why and ask people not to start dumping rubbish again ,leave a hole or bins ,in case people come with trash ,
We have done a lot of comunity cleaning and if you dont leave alternatives or try to work on peoples guilt feelings (some people actually have those ,but not many)
than your efforts are a waste of time.
That is what we do in Mexico
POSITIVE ACTIONS
Print Tshirts with slogans ,hang posters all over the place (with recycled paper if possible)
Classify trash take out all the organic waste and make compost with it ,the worst you can do is throw it with the trash
70% of contamination is due to organic waste that is mixed in with the garbage .
And it is just as bad in the sewer where it helps to breed rats and in the landfill it poisons the ground
And it is the easiest to take care of
o first of all we have to clasify trash at least keep the organic to one side ,like in a plasic bin with a lid
If you got a few meters of ground ,you only need 1 or 2 square meters in a shallow hole ,in the shade ,that you can wet now and again ,where you dump everything that is organic ,from toilet paper, bones vegetable cuttings ,eggshells,,dead bodies ,excrement ,and cover regularly with leaves to keep humid and to hide any smell
the worms will come and decompose the wastes truning it into beautifull blck soil for the garden of flower pots .
If you are in a apartment ,if you have a balcony get a big plastic bin drill some holes in the side and lid ,
Add a few buckets of sand now and again to put over the trash ,you should realt stir or move the stuff at times to airate it and ensure that the decomposition is overall ,keep moist
This rubbish does not get big very fast and the thing works for a long time with out getting full

If you want to help the planet ,plant a tree every week ,if everyone on the planet did we we would be able to slowdown the destructive processes
Reduce carbon emisions, and they are already working on that by alternative forms of energy and regulations on carbon producing materials, aerosol cans, burning rubbish, industrial chimneys, powerplants etc.
The capture of carbon and the production of water and assist the aquiferous manta.
The world bank pays large subsidies for reforrestation to capture carbon and the best tree for this is the Pawlonia
Waterharvesting projects ,such as millions of small dams.to redirect over ground waterflows from the rains into the ground to supply subteranian water supplies.
The protection of existing forrests.
Stop building more highways, urban planning to include vegetation stop building cities encourage people to return to the land to conduct their business from there which now has become possible thanks to the internet.
Education to motivate people to auto sufficiency by building more home food gardens.
Education on environmental awareness
education on family planning to curb over´population
Agricultural education and improvements to follow the principals or sustainability and soil management.
More environmental or land ,design to prevent bush fires, such as--fire breaks
More dams.regulations and control for public behaviour
Alternative effeciant public transport to discourage the use of the internal conbustion engine
Recicling wastes,limit water use
AND 101 more ways

no. what the hell are you doing about it?
Bandwagon environmentalists. Cause du jour freaks.
Some people do a LOT for the environment without thinking that they have to do something for Global Warming.
When you find out that Global Warming is not a popular cause or not what it's hyped to be, you'll prostitute yourself to the next cause and blow off the environment.
I like to choke the global warming fanatics, not to death, just for a few seconds, and them I assure them I'm doing the right thing because I'm reducing their carbon foot print.
On a serious note, I do things for things for the enviroment. Not because I'm a enviromentalcase, afterall I believe in God. I do things because it's the right thing to do, and I don't expect any credit for the things I do, nor to I look for it to make me feel good about myself. It's just a part of life.
No. It's actually arrogant to think we can change the environment.
Think of all the volcanoes, along with the two nukes we needed to detonate to stop the war with Japan. The earth withstood all this, and survived nicely.
The Lord created the universe. Do any of us really feel it is that fragile? If it is, we'll have to stop all manufacturing in China, as they are soon to be the number one polluter on the planet, and the only major nation not required to reduce carbon emissions under the present agreement.the treaty.
Even if we thought we were doing "something", it's meaningless.
Well what are *YOU* doing? In any case there is nothing that can be done. do the math... shrinking a few parentage points of carbon output here in the US will have no effect at all... even if every nation on the planet reduced carbon usage by 20% that's still nothing. Carbon is the smallest and least important of Green House gasses. It has only about a 5% effect on the total green house effect. Man produced CO2 is only about 10% or so of that amount... Even if you factor in EVERYTHING that mankind does that still only amounts to something like 3% of the total Green house gasses. So unless you propose to eliminate humankind, there is not a thing that any one can do.
In any event it is the SUN that is causing Global Warming.
i guess it helps if yoy at least do a little
like unplugging charges after you finish using them and planting trees
thats what i do
Dear CruzC09
People take time to respond to something that most of them do not understand and refuse to recognize. When the sea levels rise enough to start flooding coastal cities like New York and New Orleans and states like Florida and low lying islands then remedies will be too late. Look up the Kyoto accords on the internet to find out what is being done in the rest of the world. Look at the production of hybrid vehicles that use less gasoline. North Americans are buying more and more compact cars that use less gasoline. More and more garbage is being recycled for materials that have already been made. Reforestation of unused land will help trap carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. In Europe most people use buses and trains instead of owning cars. Some large cities are placing tolls on cars and trucks that enter the city. Incandescent light bulbs are being replaced with fluorescent bulbs that use less than 1/3rd of the energy.
Some things that could be done on a personal level not mentioned are the following;
1) use your own cloth bags for grocery shopping - do not use the plastic bags that the stores have.
2) Dry the wash on a line outside instead of using a dryer.
3) Use an on-demand hot water heater instead of the old hot water tank that wastes energy keeping 10 to 50 gallons of water hot.
4)If you can afford it, buy newer more efficient appliances.
5)Compost all table scraps (except meats and fats) if possible.
6) Grow some of your own food where your lawn is. Get rid of as much of the lawn as possible and turn it into a garden with flowers and vegetables. Use the compost from your home to fertilize the garden.
7) Use a non powered push mower if the lawn is small.
8) Use 50 gallon plastic drums to capture rain water for the flower and vegetable gardens.
9) Try to buy food that is produced within a 100 mile radius of your home.
10)Increase the amount of insulation in the walls and ceiling of your home -- it will be warmer in winter and cooler in summer.
11) Install triple pane windows in your home.
These are some things that could be done.
yes, i am.
i've replaced some dimmer switches, so i can use CF bulbs.
and i use them.
we use the air conditioner less, depending on open windows to cool the house. it's a bit of a pain, but it cuts the AC time in half.
Al Gore's having a big concert that plans to use 10,000 times more energy than anyone can use in a year.
That should help the global warming problem some.
I wish he would try to warm the planet during the wintertime.
In order to stop Global Warming we would have to impose a world wide ban on the use of fossil fuels. Voluntary cutbacks will not do the job.
We do not have the political will or the military capability to enforce a world wide ban on the use of fossil fuel.
We cannot even handle Iraq. How would we enforce a world wide ban on the use of fossil fuel?
Instead we need to start planning now how we will ameliorate the effects of Global Warming.
The sea levels will rise.
Fortunately most low lying areas can be protected with dike systems similar to those that they have in Holland.
We need to help the poor countries with the necessary dike systems. We need to help relocate populations that cannot be protected with dike systems.
There will be more hurricanes and they will be stronger. We need to help poor countries that will be affected to upgrade their disaster response systems.
There will be droughts. We need to help the affected areas with supplemental water supplies and desalination plants.
We cannot prevent Global Warming, but we can ameliorate the effects if we start now.
There are many things even lazy people can do that have a huge impact on our environment and will slow down global warming. Here is a list:
1. Buy energy efficient appliances -dishwashers, TVs, washers, dryers, refrigerators, etc.
2. Turn off the lights when you leave a room
3. When your at work or gone on vacation set ur thermostat to be a lower temp
4. RECYCLE, REDUCE, & REUSE
5. Buy products that are more packaging efficiant
6. Ride your bike, walk, take the bus, car pool, buy hybrid cars
7. Make sure your home is well insolated including ur windows. You are lossing heat YOU paid for anyway if you dont.
I was in an auto accident last winter and since then have replaced my car with a bike. It is suitable for 80% of the errands I do. I am lucky that I can commute by public transit. If I really need a car I rent one, if it is an "emergency" I call a cab; + no car = no insurance I have to pay for. The gold card covers the insurance on the rental (check the features on YOUR credit card).
By not allowing the tap or shower to run when bathing, washing dishes, shaving, etc. I have cut my water bill down to between $5 - $10 for each billing period. Where possible I recycle the water for houseplants. A couple of years ago I moved from a house to a condo, so I don't have to worry about mowing and watering a lawn. The only other large waste of water was washing the car and clothing. The car is gone and the laundramat is a short trip downstairs. I do not know what my water and power consumption is for that.
The events that led to the change of lifestyle may have been dramatic, but the actual changes hasn't been that difficult for me. Acceptance is the hardest part, once you get past that, it's easy. You CAN be lazy and conserve ;-)
No, but there is really nothing the average person can do other than the minimum required to say "I'm helping fight global warming", like reducing toilet paper consumption, or taking an occasional bus ride.
I agree. Just read about this website on the Wall Street Journal: Carbon Diet Plan, which lists ways to improve one's ecological profile "and provides inspiration for your friends to do the same."
The answer is a resounding YES - there are many concerned individuals who are taking action rather than just sitting around worrying. Politicians will continue to tinker at the edges of climate change policy until a critical mass of people stand up to be counted. I've done this by joining the Citizens Climate Campaign at www.climatecampaign.info as well as committing to a daily personal & political action at the Year in a Day blog at www.stoplaughing.com.au If everyone did these simple things, as well as reducing their personal ecological footprint, then we can make a real impact on the pace of climate change.
You are kind enough to post a question,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,...
Yes, Al Gore and his ilk are doing everything possible to put more greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere by having large concerts on 7/7/07.
yes,you right.that's human being attitude, never open their mind
