Why do you think we can stop global warming when we can't even stop AIDS, hunger, or terrorism and war?
Answer:
In other words, why are most people idiots??
Well, I think the government is conditioning us to believe that Global Warming or Global Cooling (what they called it 30 years ago) is a real issue. I think they use this issue to gain political support (Al Gore), they use it to divide us, or they are just stupid. The truth of the matter is we need to stop killing each other and stop people from dying from diseases that should be preventable and curable. Personally I think we should stop policing the world and focus on making American the best it can be. Maybe then other countries will follow suit.
Maybe we can't but it shouldn't keep us from trying. Just like the other things you listed...we haven't yet, but we are still working on it.
That's like saying, why should I bother living if I'm just going to die anyway. As in, stupid.
Good point, lets not even try
We can't stop it, but we can slow it down enough so that we can cope with the remaining effects, instead of having a disaster. Here's the plan:

We should be spending time on how we can control the sun more than anything else. If we can control the sun, then we can prevent global warming, have an endless energy supply, and find the means and methods for developing the medicine needed to prevent aids.
Bush.. he won't do a thing because he can't spell half the problem that are in the US... Fighting is never the answer, but war is the word he can spell.
Different people want to change different things. Though i want all of these terrible things to stop, I, as a teenager, can do little things to help global warming end. Recycling, non-aerosol products, you get the picture. I can always donate money to victims of AIDS and world hunger, but i can't necessarily stop that. We should keep trying though because our earth is being severely damaged.
Because Aids, hunger, terrorism and war are endemic events that will not ultimately render the planet uninhabitable. Global warming will.
Well, war might render the planet uninhabitable if someone has the guts to start a nuclear war, so far, no country has. Even paranoid governments feel the need to survive.
Can you develop drugs that target constantly mutating viruses? No.
Can you single-handedly grow enough food to feed the world? No.
Can you don some weapons and go obliterate some terrorists? Probably not, judging from your question.
But...
Can you recycle plastics? Yes.
Can you use less water? Yes.
Can you conserve gas a little better? Yes.
That's why we should try to stop global warming.
First you must understand the magnitude of the problem;
Global warming: involves whole of population
Aids: involves less than average 1 to 5 Pct. of the global population
Hunger: Regional problem
Terrorism: Problem of culture, values and land
War: After second world war it is in check except far and scattered pockets.
Out of above only one problem involves the whole of planet, others are regional or where efforts at global level are already being made and sooner or later some solution is possible or at least can be contained in a limited area.
So here question not what can be done or not, question is concerted efforts and results. Some warnings were issued on global warming from time to time but when problem started going out of control the global opinion was unified and united to find solutions It is now that all nations raised one slogan in one voice and I am sure some solution will be found before it is too late.
It is like fighting a war on different fronts, the most vulnerable front at present is "Global warming" and all efforts must be drawn towards this front , because if we loose here there will be no other front to fight and defend.
Therefore dear friend, be rest assured fight is on and we shall win.
Yeah, no kidding. If we focused the energy spent on global warming toward something like creating and distributing more of the basic necessities of life, it would be effort better spent.
because it is something that concerns everyone
everyone should at least try
its something that everyone can help out with
whats wrong with trying
"we" can do whatever we set "our" minds to. the fact is, friend, the powers that be don't want solutions to these problems.
wake up- there is no conspiracy. read papers by kissinger. read u.n. papers on the environment. read u.n. papers in regards to population sustainability. look into the meetings of the club of rome; etc. etc. etc. again, there is no conspiracy, they tell you to your obligatory face what they have planned.
there is no shortage of information stating that the powers that be want DRASTIC population reduction. the aforementioned reading isn't the most fun to read.(boring and CHILLING) however, i believe that it is worth the grind in order to find out how the powers that be view your life. if you look, they will tell u point blank.
"it's not that there is to little oil, there are to many people."

Who said we can't stop AIDS, HUNGER, TERRORISM & WAR? nobody has said that. Try saying it to the people who are doing their best to stop these problems. And nobody said we can stop Global Warming. It's about trying to slow down Global Warming not stopping it, we can't stop mother nature.. through global participation we can slow down the rate of Global Warming. Above all the problems listed.. Global Warming is the most critical and threatens everyone, even the richest...thats why globally we think we can slow it down...
Because we understand how to control global warming.
When the Antarctic ozone hole was discovered in the 1980's, we understood that it was being caused by CFC's produced by human industrial activity. We put in place an international agreement -- the Montreal Protocol -- to control CFC emissions. The result is that the growth in the ozone hole has ended. Although it's still not getting much better, at least it's not getting much worse, either. So we know that international agreements properly enforced CAN make a big difference in the planetary environment.
A similar international effort could bring global warming under control. All that is lacking is the political will to reach it, and to enforce it.
humans have huge egos we think we can do n.e thing and thats not the case
I hate to sound pessimistic, but maybe global warming is inevitable. As long as the global human population keeps skyrocketing and choking out the earth's natural balance, global warming will probably continue to escalate until the overinfestation of humans on this finite planet gets under control.
It's not fair to blame third world countries who are just coming around to their own industrial revolution era. They're just trying to catch up with modern civilization like what the U.S. started during the last century. So even if we become totally green, there are many more third world countries than developed countries that will most likely perpetuate the condition of global warming.
The only solution that I can think of is perhaps de-industrializing and living life like the Native American Indians did (before our forfathers slaughtered most of them with genocide) and promoting their lifestyle globally. They only took from nature what they needed and utilized everything from it. So they had no garbage and no need for toxic human waste landfills.
Maybe humans are too greedy for their own survival.
Hello,
>> Here in Brazil, we havent terrorism, the AIDSs numbers is stable by some years (because all drugs cocktail is free in public system of health), we havent war (there is high criminality in all big cities, but no war) and the hunger is each time small. Here is not paradise. Have many other problems, sure! But are solving someone.
>>Are you think the people dont know how do a better world? or, the people to know to do a better world and dont want?...
>>I think its possible to stop global warming, because our generation create it. Its not a technical problem! Its a economical problem. I explain it. We can make electric energy by dams on rivers, by nuclear fission, by wind, by waves of ocean, by sunlight without to generate CO2 and burning biomass, that make CO2, but the plants breath it again (net CO2=0). Why USA and Europe, for example dont change the burning of oil to some these process without pollution? Are not the richest country and the lords of technology? The politicial can say, oh its impossible, or , Oh,we will have lost of jobs! May be diificult, and may be have lost of lobs, but in many places of the world many peoples will die! And think, while the lords of oil can to sale oil and have profit (with all problems of pollution and warming), they do it. So, why people dont use more buses, train or subway? Way people dont use more solar warming to water of shower?
>>Some weeks ago, has discovered that the USA government put taxes on importation bioethanol of Brazil (fuel with zero pollution), because pression of yours farmes! But they dont plant sugarcane! They plant corn (maize) and want make bioethanol with it, but sugarcane give at least ~6 times more alcohol than corn. Until Arnold Scwarzeneger (none genius), the Governator, saw its a bad business and dont want taxes. So, to 20 or 30 farmes win money, they put taxes on importation a product that can slow down global warming.
>>Do you know what alternative the bioethanol brazilians makers to export more? Export to Honduras, nicaragua, Guatemala and others carribeans country. There, the bioethanol is processed to remove the 4% of water (there is ethanol 96% used in the cars of Brazil and pure ethanol, used to add to gasoline) and after to be sold to USA (untill 7% of GNP of caribeans products may be exported without taxes to USA) like caribean product.
>>For solve global warming, each one will have to do your part, individually and collectively. Individually, we can to save fossils fuels using more collective transports or changing the car to small one, using bikes to work (if possible), eating less meat of cattle (because methane producted by ox and cow is 30 times worst than CO2) and eating more vegetables, chicken and fish; make less trash (trash makes methane); installing solar warming to water, changing lamps to fluorescents, putting more glasses on the wall to sun iluminate during day; down air conditioning and making pression on polliticals to up taxes on fossil and down taxes on renewables.
>> Collectively, we can stop import big cars; to up commerce with neighborhoods countries( to down pollution by transport); Import energy of renewables sources or estimulate your production; to control use fertilizer of nitrogen, because when in excess, it free N2O, gas 296 times worst than CO2 and the greatest consumers these fertilizer are richest countries; to down commerce with countries dont work to down pollution and up with that down pollution; stopping importation of deforestation wood.
Does your part.

One step at a time and the next on gets you there.
We have the Internet now and we can use it to fix these problems if we want to and if we put in the effort to figure out how then actually do it we will.
