What country is the most environmentally friendly country in the world?

How Does it make it the cleanest/most environmentally friendly place ?
Is this becuase of were it is located or because of the carbon admissions?
Or the politics of the region ?

Answer:
In terms of emissions contributing to global warming:
The countries that are the most environmentally friendly are those that employ renewable energy sources to be the majority of their energy generation. In a study I conducted, it was countries such as Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Switzerland, Hungary etc.

There are also numerous schemes in these countries in place to reduce emissions from transport, agriculture, etc. But the main factor is renewable energy.

The worst I found were countries that were either in a period of rapid development and who could not afford good, clean technologies to reduce emissions (eg China and India). The problems for these countries were also the low quality fuel used for energy production. Others included in the worst countries were the US, Australia, Canada, and Spain. These were because of excessive lifestyles which need high levels of energy (Air-con, cars, etc), and not much effort in renewable energy sources. Others were ones such as Brazil, which has high emissions due to deforestation (not always that countries fault).

In summary, it is countries who invest a lot of money into renewable energy sources. These are typically countries that have high tax rates, and non-excessive lifestyles. So.. that's why all the environmentally friendly countries are in Europe!
Probably the poor countries that cannot afford to just throw things away, or afford to open up a polluting factory or drive a fancy SUV. They live off of the land and never throw things away. No electricity, no indoor plumbing... Walk by foot to go everywhere.
I think deciding whether or not a country is environmentally friendly should depend on all of the factors you listed.

I don't know of any published ranking for environmentally friendly countries, but there are countries that claim they will hold that title in the near future.

Sweden says that it will be the first oil-free country in the world by 2020 (http://www.scandinavica.com/culture/natu...

Germany, also rings in claiming that they will become the world's most energy-efficient country soon (http://www.dw-world.de/dw/article/0,2144...

My bet is on Sweden.
Probably the Netherlands ,
they almost got no Environment to speak of ,and have been traditionally clean and against poluting for about 400 years already.
