When people buy green credits, where does that money go?

As I understand it, green credits are basically a way for people to pay to offset the amount of resources they use. What I'm wondering is, what (or who) does the money go to?

Answer:
To ask that question is to undermine the stabilization of our environment....
20% advertising
40% administration
3% credit card companies
37% to a nursery (owned by a credit card company) to plant a 6 inch tall cutting which may one day grow big enough to offset the greenhouse gases that you feel so guilty about that you let yourself be suckered into giving away your hard earned cash.

My Advice: Stay home, don't take that vacation. Call your local school, park, etc and ask if there is a way to donate $100 to plant a tree in your honor.
Green credits are supposed to go to Green projects. Of course the trading company keeps some, the CC company keeps some, and the "Green" project gets money to maybe build something or study something that "May" be a good thing for the environment.

"What If" I started a project to build a wind farm for electric power, but I couldn't get investors because it would never pay back because the cost of building it and the unreliable power I sell will take to long to get my money back. Normally that is a bad investment. But I could form a 'Green Credit" company and get every ones money donated, then I get ALL the money for FREE. Now I can build the project, sell the power, and make ALL the money.
If I were to erect a windmill that produced more power than I use I could sell it to the local grid for nearly nothing. I could sell the fact that X number of kwh were produced by a green source to a company which markets green credits to the populace. They make a profit for their paperwork and I'm able to make my windmill pay for itself sooner.
To Crayola. You can't make green crayons for nothing.
