09.40 near Tewkesbury with a nice fine and sunny morning. The water at the moment is going down bit by bit and locals are getting their houses cleaned up and all ruined belongings are being put into skips. There is a note of optimism abroad and in general the mood is good and moral is holding up. Tonight another deluge is forecast but with the lower levels in the Severn and the Avon rivers they are not expected to flood again. All will be holding their breath though. We still have no running water and the distribution of the bottled stuff, which is free, puts me in mind of a third world country receiving food aid.

I am south west of you in Surrey near Weybridge and the sky is blue but I can't hear the birds or the rustling trees because they are digging up the bloody road and have been since 7.30.
