How can we save river from getting polluted?
Answer:
Theres really not much you can do about this prob. but you can go to the state council and ask what you can do. Or start a protest or something...sorry theres not much you can do. Good luck!
WATER POLUTION
FIRSTHAND CONTAMINATION
Rivers and Lagoons
millions of batteries are thrown in the rivers and Lagoons by night fishermen
1 small penlight battery contaminate 10.000 litres of water
raw sewage added to water flows like cannals and rivers ,
trash dumped on rivers edges ,
Industry contaminates practically unchecked
farmers using agro chemicals (fertilizers ,herbicides & pesticides)then deforrest and the rains washing the topsoils impregnated with contaminants into the rivers
thousands of women that do the washing in rivers using harmfull detergents.
farmers dump acidic coffee husk into the waters which kills millions of fish ,
on the coasts
oil spills that contaminate coastal waters,
Oceans
industrial wastes that are dumped into deep oceanic trenches
SECONDARY POLUTION
changes in water temperature enhances harmfull algae,(remember the red tide)
and kills many fish who are critical to temperature ,when sea water enters lagoons here in Mexico many fish die ,due to sudden temperature changes
also warm water releases carbon gasses
cold water absorbs them
SOLUTIONS
wetlands like swamps have always been Natures natural filters for natural water flows, aquatic plants clean the water ,the anchored plants as well as the floating ones
we should redesign wetland flora with in natural water systems to help contra contamination.
stop sewage systems that connect to natural water flows ,forbid and police the dumping of rubbish on waters edges ,
the best way is through the educational systems ,starting at kiddy schools and rising in intensity with progression.
but in Mexico this is not accepted because this kind of education is not in the ciriculum.
In short the ways to protect the waters is
laws and punishment ,government vigilence ,education ,
alternative farming methods away from using chemicals ,which eventually end up in the ground water supplies
to merely clean polution or try to clean is never effective because of population growth ,it gets worse by the year ,an impossible task
we must attack at the roots and that is the contaminating mentality
If you are going to ask me, it will be very difficult. Once a river is polluted, it would take us more than a year to totally clean it.
If you want to save the rivers from getting polluted, the best way is to make a law to save these rivers.
One best way is to refrain from dumping of plastics or nonbiodegradable substances into the river.
And, all sewage or factory wastes should be prior treated in an Effluent Treatment Plant before release into the river.
What river and what pollutants? We need this informatioation to help you.
First try contacting your state and federal government. Your state government should have a government agency to protect the environment. The federal government has the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Depending on the river and pollutants, one of these agencies can probably help.
If you're talking about trash and litter at the river, it all depends on where the river is. If the river is in the forests or remote area, there's a good chance that it's crosses through land managed by the National Forest Service or some other federal public land agency. If that's the case, contact that agency and tell them about it. They may have the resources to clean up.
Lastly, maybe try writting or emailing your U.S. Senator, or Congressman, or State Governor. You could probably get someone on thier staff to help you.
Depends on lots if things. Rivers are generally very long and are polluted in many different ways. A way for an individual would be not to use fertilizers or pesticides on their lawns. What ends up going down the sewer drain usually ends up in rivers, so be careful of what goes down.
As other answers have indicated, your question may need to be a little more specific. Is this a hypothetical river? What are your pollution sources? Point or non-point? If you are trying to save your river from point source - ie pollution that stems from one known source like a factory pipe or sewage treatment works, then you have to approach your local council to ensure that the company or organization in question is made to comply with water quality standards and that they pay for the clean-up costs.
If your source cannot be traced to one culprit, then it is non-point source and is a little harder to tackle. Buffer strips have been proven to be pretty effective when tested at field or plot scales, and can trap nitrates and phosphates from agricultural run-off. If you know a farmer who farms right up to the river bank, you might want to suggest this as a solution. Many agricultural bodies (Agriculture Canada, USDA etc. will subsidise farmers to implement buffers). If livestock are the issue, then riparian fencing with an alternative water supply should go a long way to reducing pollution.
So...depends on what your pollutant is. The answer will determine your solution. Many rivers and watersheds have conservation groups so I'd talk to them about any concerns you may have.
we cant do much about it . because it has its profits and losses . but from the bottom of my heart i think that should at least try to minimise the pollution because if dont nature will have it revenge on us . things like floods , volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, droughts etc will occur and man will be washed from the face of the earth. if we dont take care of our mother earth she will not take care of us. it is tit for tat process. it is time act if we dont act now the is not far when the earth will once again become same as 30000 yrs before . start thinking and acting!!!!!!! because to save our earth there is no need of education
By economical and effective effluent treatment
The River pollution is caused mainly by effluents
There different methods of treating the effluents depending their chemical composition and dissolved salts, gas and chemicals
By treating effulents we are not only saving the Rivers but also recycling the treated water for general purpose utilities
I am one among lot of Scientist working on effluent and sewage treatment
We can offer solution if the requirement is projected to us
Find out the cause of pollution to the rivers - industrial (wastewater discharge to the river) or domestic (sewage, sold waste dumping into the river) or agriculture (pesticide and other chemicals from runoffs to rivers).
Knwoing the source of pollution, abatement is not a technical issue, but is a commercial issue. Sadly, government gives imporatnce for industrial development, but seldom takes river pollution seriosuly. Once damaged, river water will take years to get into normal and often is the costliest.
We need political will and NGOs to get our act together.
Save our rivers and our drinking water source.
