It's 7-7-7. Will today's "Dead Earth" concert make ANY difference to "global warming?"

As you can tell by the wording of my question, I'm skeptical. NOT so much about the possibility that global warming may indeed be taking place, as I am that today's worldwide "Live Earth" concert -- which is designed to inspire action, rather than raise funds (refreshing!!) -- can actually do any good for its intended cause.

Do YOU think a significant percentage (as in, 2% or more) of those who hear any of this concert will take ANY step in their personal lives to alleviate global warming? And if so, do you think that enough of them will do that for more than a week or so, before going back to whatever has been "situation normal," for them? What are your thoughts?

Answer:
No not one little bit; in fact it’ll make it worse.

Let’s see, we’re going to tell people how stop global warming, by putting on concerts that will release TONS of CO2 into the atmosphere, that’s logic for you.

***
Did you hear they are having a live earth concerts in New York, London, Sydney, Reo de Janeiro, Johannesburg, Tokyo, Shanghai, and Hamburg, to tell us how we can stop global warming?

Here let me help stop global warming, DON’T HAVE STUPID CONCERTS, do they not think people are going to drive or fly to the concerts?

No they didn’t.

How much CO2 is that going to release into the atmosphere?

Tons.

Then they all have to go home, even more CO2. What about all the food, water, beer, soda? Did it magically appear?

Nope someone drove a truck to deliver it, more then one I bet.

Oh no even more CO2 Just how did the bands and the stage crews get there? Walk?

Nope.

That means even more CO2. Al Gore is going to be there too, did he walk?

Nope.

Did he at least fly commercial?

I’ll bet not.

Darn even more CO2. Ok, Ok, Well, I know everyone of them will plant a tree right?

Nope, too lazy.

Then I just know everyone there will buy carbon offset, you know they pay someone to plant trees so they really don’t have to do anything themselves right?

Nope, most of the concerts goers are too cheap to do even that.

What about the pesticides used to grow the crops?

We won’t even go there, with the water pollution that causes, or the animals who are going to die because of the pesticides, or being run over by trucks getting the crops to market, then to the factories, then to warehouses, then to suppliers, then to the stores then to the concerts goers. And what if someone has a little too much to drink and they have s*x and that makes a baby how much CO2 is that going to cause? Between the Dr. check-ups, before and after birth, school, school trips, lunches ETC.

Great, these concerts will doom the entire planet. So if you really care about the planet, don’t go, please, petty please with sugar on top. Do for me, do it to save the planet.

Hey it sound like a good time, if we’re going to kill the planet let’s at least have a little fun.

**
So if you’re going go to have a good time, you’re not saving the planet.
probably not

How much are you doing? Have you even made an effort?
It's always easy for lazy-a** cynics to ridicule the people who are motivated to get up off their butts and work to make a difference.

The truth is--theyse jerks don't have any solutions, and don't have the guts to do anything if they did. So they make smart-alec remarks for their equally stupid friends and they all sit around congratulating themselves on how "sophisticated " they are.

While the rest of us do the work to solve the problems. Typical of any spoiled, immatue brats.
If you a expect a day of concert can change the world, it's like expecting a month old baby to feed him/herself. The concert might not change the world, but the message will be heard by many people who are concerned, and who knows, some will start to do something for the world, at least, in one's life. Being optimistic and positive thinking is good for the World in general.
You have expressed many of my own skeptical thoughts better than I could. GW may actually be true but just encouraging other people to go out and plant trees or buying gasoline powered hybrid cars isn't going to cut it. So far all Congress has done about it is grease the wheels so farmers in the midwest can make more money (and cough up more votes) by selling corn to ethanol producers instead of Kelloggs and Frito Lay.

The best I expect the average viewer of todays musical sermons to do is maybe buy more expensive light bulbs and attempt for a short time to get to work via mass transit. Then like you say give it up in frustration after a couple weeks when they hear the polar icecaps are still melting and The Strip in Las Vegas had a blackout.
theres an old saying from 1965 nothing in the world ever changes, the beat goes on and on and on-- meaning that the concert promoters and advertisers will make a ton of $$ a few people will change there lifestyles temporarily, but in the long run we can wake up next month and the problems will still be there, like it or not. global warming is not the real problem, even thou a few die hards keep making noise about it, the real problem is over population of humans and their using up of the resources at 150% of sustainable rates. the earth is trying to compensate, but real progress is slow on a planetary rate, the slowness may yet allow man to survive in spite of his own stupidity, and again to quote the movies, the darkside is closer than you think.
Global warming is bunk, the only change that live earth will effect is the millions of gallons of gas required to power the amplifiers tour buses and private jets of the rock stars will be in the ozone layer, right next to the billions needed to take the patrons of the concert. The after-site of the concert will be an environmental disaster zone with trash everywhere and whenever AL GORE is asked about the cost of Live Earth to the environment he changes the subject.
i think what their doing is good because more people would wake up and realise global warming is real instead of just a myth but with all that electricity they are wasting i don't think it will help at all
The only thing this Live Earth concerts are supposed to create is a pile of money. If it really was to make people aware of a fake global warming, they would have put the concerts on the internet for free. Instead they have "has-been" musicians jetting in private jets around the world, people wasting fuel in cars, etc. It is a joke. I like how Al and Tipper Gore believe in air conditioning for themselves but want the rest of us to suffer under a ceiling fan.
The return on the investment is going to be negligible - except to Al Gore, of course. I think he stands to really cash in on this whole mess. Have you seen the ticket prices? Is there really anyone out there who isn't aware of the man-made global warming hoax anyway?
Yes, it will make Al and his friends a lot of money so they can do more to tell us poor uneducated idiots what we should do in our lives while they live their life of luxury in their mansions and airplanes, etc.
Yes, today's joke will be responsible for producing tones of co2 from the fuel required to get to the concerts, the elec. produced to run the concerts, and tons and tons of trash from the concessions them selves, so yes today's events will make a difference on GW, if you believe it is happening in the first place.
I just watched a little of the concert on Bravo and there was this song with a video that showed a starving children, tidal waves, hurricanes, and polar bears that could no longer do the back stroke.

Every now and then the lyrics would mention "poets and prophets" and you would see images of John Lennon, Gandhi, Bob Dylan, Martin Luther King, Albert Einstein, oh and AL GORE!

The man has become seriously delusional.

At the end of the video, there is a brief image of illegals climbing over a high wall. What the hell does that have to with global warming?

What kind of idiots buy into this kind of puke in your mouth crap?
Dead Earth illustrates my biggest criticism of the Global Warming Awareness Movement. What may indeed be a deadly serious problem affecting the entire human population has been seized by hucksters for their own nefarious purposes, the most notorious of which is Albert Gore Jr.

I have recently dubbed Gore as The Pied Piper of Nashville and will continue to refer to him so. Just as the main character of the medieval tale, he has sold a scare story to a terrified public promising to solve the alarming problem of climate change / disease carrying rats for big money when his true intent is to spirit away the youth of the USA / Hamelin for their votes and political servitude / to the Crusades (or according to Manchester an isolated region for unspeakable acts of perversion, torture and murder).
I think so.
I am watching it and it has great bands , people will watch their favorites and think " if so and so is doing it , I will too!"
I really hope that it will help , because it would really be for a great cause.
NMot at all. Since Industrial China already stated to our Governemnt. In order for them to change Environmental Standards we would need to go to war with them. Only reason why they were in China is because some Chinese politican made a lot of money to have a performance. But, it will not change Industrial China's Environmental Standards.

Want to make a real change. Join your country's military and beg them to attack China and turn it into a glass parking lot.
