How can soil be treated to counteract acid rain?

Answer:
Alkaline or basic soils, such as those rich in limestone, calcium carbonate, can neutralize the acid directly. These types of soils are found in the Midwest, Great Plains, and most of the Western states. If you live in an area that has naturally acidic soils, then you can add calcium carbonates or limestone products to your soil. The acid should neutralize almost immediately.
