Permaculture: If we make an ethical decision to take responsibility for ourselves and family then is this the only decision we need to make? By doing so we will be conscious of the positive and negative impacts we have on the rest of society and environment and act accordingly. Do you agree?

Answer:
RIPPLING EFFECT
a proved phenomina

We can do no more for sure
than to be reponsible for our own behaviour and our families

we can inspire our neighbours and usually do because of the
rippling effect because of human Nature

If half of the street starts to grow food or have gardens the other ones follow because they dont want to be the odd one out ,or look idiots or to be the uglist in town and so will follow suit

In Africa we helped various families of a poor a native comunity to set up gardens and provided seeds tools etc,
after 5 years the whole village had gardens ,everybody liked to have maize and vegetables ,the white boss was not paying to much, if anything.

They had an even poorer neighbouring settlement of gansters thieves ,lazy good for nothings living in cardboard and zink huts
but after about 12 years their village had painted adobe huts, bigger gardens and they recieved no help at all ,they stole the seeds and tools but ended up with pride and the more beautifull village, and honesty was on the horizon . They all had girl friends or boyfriends in the other village

this is called the RIPPLING EFFECT

The secret ingredient is to be friendly to your neighbours
give them some of what you grow and show them how it is done ,help them on their way and it is their obligation to do like wise the other side of their fence

there is no better schooling than example

So we start at home and if we are impressive enough, our iniciative ,inovation, good sense and success will spread like a friendly virus
Wea are all responsible for the earth aand it is about time we stood up and owned that resposibility!
If we are responsible for ourselves and our families then we must be being responsible for the earth and other people.
Were all your children "planned pregnancies"? It's always easier to talk the talk.
this assumes that we will do the best we can to make choices to protect the ones closest to us. ethically, our responsibility does not stop there. we also have a responsibility to each other as members of a community. we also have a huge responsibility to take care of that which takes care of us: this would be our surroundings.

if you start small and take responsibiltiy for your family, that's a good start. you're also supposing that others will be so noble as well: and i wish they were. but it takes a village to raise a village: all of its members are tied together by a common fate, a common bond, and common interests. they should cooperate to see that all are cared for (physically, socially, emotionally, eventually all the way up maslow's hierarchy for many) in order to maximize the benefits for all. a healthy, diverse population will certainly be well able to 'act accordingly' and take care of itself. and its environment!

why isn't this the case today? it all comes back to your question... responsibility. a community is judged by how it treats its less fortunate members. and today, more often than not, we fail.
