Can Live Earth raise people awareness of global warming?

I'm a bit gimmick of this show, and not sure will reach the main objective. How do pop stars/ audiences get this show? Do they think of saving carbon foot print? How will make the show impact what is happening right now? Do you believe those people are altruistic or opportunistic? (they say 2 billions and 9 countries, will be watching)

Answer:
I'm not really sold on the degree to which human involvement affects global warming. However, I do believe reducing emissions and reliance on fossil fuels is the right thing to do. In general though, I think the whole movement needs to focus on how environment change will affect people on a local level. If people are going to be truly motivated, they need to know how changes will affect them at home rather than how it might affect some remote island on the other side of the world. They need to know how their efforts can make a direct impact on their lives.

And for those who call Gore a hypocrite, think about this: the supply of energy in the universe is virtually limitless. Even on our own planet their is an almost limitless supply of energy - everything from the wind and the waves to rivers and the sun. The is energy in all these places that could be harnessed and converted to clean energy for our homes and other aspects of our life.

The question is not how much energy Al Gore and his family use, but rather where that energy comes from. And if it does come from a non-renewable source, is he doing something to help produce an equivalent or greater amount of energy from a clean and/or renewable source? If your energy came exclusively from wind and solar power, it wouldn't matter one bit how much you used because none of it is coming from fossil fuels or other polluting means.
It's a big joke. Gore is a hypocrite and a nutcase who belongs in a mental institution. The events themselves are harming the environment, in addition to his jet trips to go there.

And to think that you liberals almost elected him. You're just about to elect someone just as bad, you betrayers!
There's no such thing as global warming, tis just a clever plot made by the governments of the western world to get more money off us. Don't blame it on the floods we've had in England because the same thing happened in 2000. Its nothing to do with the weather or the polars melting. Its all make believe like Peter Pan and Neverland. Live Earth is just yet another way of getting money
I guess only if you are convinced this is a man-made phenomenon...the science is kind of shady...but hey it's hip...let's all go to Starbucks after...***** and moan about the man and basically not do anything...oh yeah don't forget to get in your $28K Prius that took twice as much energy to make and when it is time...dump the toxic batteries in a landfill...if you really want to help support increased funding in math and science in Public schools.
That's its purpose.
I think it might help
the concerts are geared towards a younger audience, so they are appealing to them (us). by creating lots of exposure on the issues in as many areas of entertainment and news, more people will pay attention. truth is, younger minds are easier to mold, especially with entertainment. in a business point-of-view it is quite ingenious and if they can change 10% of those people's minds, then i think it's worth it in the long run.
i don't think that every artist in the concerts believes or practices what they are there to represent. but we also need to look at where the proceeds are going, which will be used to create further further awareness.
