What safety measures can people take to avoid natural disasters?

Answer:
exstreme cold freezes people to death same as heat waves .especially old people ,as has already happened in France,Indi ,Mexico Africa ,China , etc exstreme water displacements drowns people

earth quackes burries them under the rubble ,
like tornados .
volcanos kill people with Lava ,smoke or ash
and poisenous gasses.

there are no safety measure except by living in places that are not so vulnerable as wide open country or low lying coastal areas
up between mountains is safest
from storms ,floods ,tornados ,huricanes ,tsunamis ,earth quackes
just dont go between volcanos
ha ha ha

Governments or towns or countries cannot prepare for Huge Natural disastres that is the whole problem
huge quantities of people cannot be moved quickly, there is no Water food or space to accomodate them .

the best thing people can do in case of Global disasters is calmly sit at home and prepare for death ,that is why there is such an increase in religious movements right now.
The Elderly are at extreme risk of heat stroke make sure they have air conditioning.
It depends where you live but people can prepare for natural disasters. I live on the east coast and our house was built to withstand hurricanes. The west coast must make sure their structures can withstand earthquakes. The middle of the U.S. must have a plan in place when tornados are in the area. Most people make these preparations, but there are always a few that are unprepared. It is unfortunate but be aware of your surroundings and you will be prepared for whatever comes your way.
As we all know, different parts of the world will have different types of disasters. I don't think natural disasters can be avoided. We need to be informed, and one can only be prepared for them. Katrina, for example, was unavoidable, and unfortunately the majority of people were not prepared for something of that nature. Some crucial safety measures I would have ready in case of another disaster:
1. Lots of potable water - at least five gallons of water per person per day
2. Have enough non-perishable foods to survive at least a week
3. Baby formula and diapers (if a baby is present of course)
4. Cash - electricity might be out for days, no ATMs
5. Flashlights and batteries, candles and matches
6. Hand-held radio
7. Gasoline (stored properly and only in approved containers)
8. A gas powered generator (if at all possible) - at least you can plug in a fan or two for air movement - specially critical for the elderly and young children
9. An evacuation route and a predetermined gathering point/location - in case you are forced to evacuate and are separated from your loved ones, have a person you can call as a point of contact to let them know you're OK and/or a place where you can all meet once thing settle down - easier said than done, right?
10. Cell phone chargers that can be manually operated for emergeny use only
11. Safety jacket/life savers - for people who can't swim
12. Medicines - specially if people are diabetic or suffer from an illness that needs them to take medicine everyday or so...
I hope these help you, the list could go on, but the items/thoughts above are the ones that I consider critical for survival. The American Red Cross is a great resource for your question.
