Why did Live Earth plan concerts around the globe?
Answer:
You wanna know?
Here's the answer:
$$$$$$$$$$
This thing is a huge trend right now, and they're earning billions of dollars from it. It's nice to think that the environment is their main concern, but let's face it - none of this would have happened if money weren't an issue.
Companies want you to panic and run to the store to buy their "eco-friendly" products.
Honda Prius takes TONS of energy to make. Add in the word "hybrid" and you have people lining up for weeks.
Global warming is real, it's just that it's taken advantage of so we end up getting manipulated by companies.
"Live Earth is a 24-hour, 7-continent concert series taking place on 7/7/07 that will bring together more than 100 music artists and 2 billion people to trigger a global movement to solve the climate crisis.
...
With support from the U.S. Green Building Council, creators of the LEED Green Building Rating System, Live Earth will implement new Green Event Guidelines. All Live Earth venues will be designed and constructed by a team of sustainability engineers who will address the environmental and energy management challenges of each concert site, as well as the operations of sponsors, partners and other Live Earth affiliates. Each venue will not only be designed to maintain a minimum environmental impact, but will showcase the latest state-of-the-art energy efficiency, on-site power generation, and sustainable facilities management practices."
So there you have it. Live Earth is essentially an attempt by Al Gore and some other people to raise awareness and hopefully inspire a significant portion of the global population to take action and do their part in trying to make the world a better place (at least where the environment is concerned).
So, to answer your question: are they wasting gas and jet-fuel and being hypocrites and polluting the environment unnecessarily? Well... think of it this way.
1) They are designing the concert sites to try and be environmentally friendly, everything from using those nifty light bulbs to recycled building materials. So at least kudos to that if they are just using global warming as an excuse to throw a concert. They could be doing much worse.
2) Let's say this worldwide concert does work and starting tomorrow, 75% of the population in industrialized countries (Canada, the U.S., China, etc.) all decide to start walking to work, or start recycling if they don't already, or car-pool to work. Then every ounce of pollution/environmental harm this event creates today could actually prevent tons of the same pollution tomorrow, and be well worth it.
Will this actually be the case? Who knows, only time will tell. But I wish them luck.
Justin
P.S. I'm aware 75% is an unrealistic number, just trying to get a point across.
Dont you like music??
we cannot have enough exposure to raise Environmental awareness .
Many people will be affected
Al Gore Mentions 2 billion
that is a lot more than the crowds that Jesus pulled
You may not agree with Al Gores aproach in his movie ,but the results are all positive
Many people agree that because of that they have become aware that there even is a problem ,and decided to investigate further or even change their lifestyle a bit
this is all good,
And these concerts will do a lot more, and world wide
Bringing Global warming into the focus of the masses .
The effects of Woodstock rippled on for decades changing atitudes that persist with many people who are in power today .
A changed mentality with the youth today means changes with control tomorrow
At least in theory
