And now you see the hypocracy of the environmental movement. Actually it's the entire progressive movement. The animal rights activists kill animals to bring awareness to cruelty to animals. The 'clean air' burn down people new luxury houses and Hummer dealerships. You see, all of these "awareness" efforts the progressives make end up a failure.why? Because the underlying reason they do these things is to make THEMSELVES FEEL BETTER. Nice.
I find it amazing that the progressives who are so against religion have established environmentalism as a religion. Here is a taste of your own medicine: Hey liberals: Keep your religion out of my face! Stop trying to push your religion down my throat! Prove global warming is actually happening! You havent done that yet!
Oh, and why you are at it: Go do some research on your trophy car, the Prius, and see how harmful the manufacturing process is to the environment! Could it be that the Prius is contributing to your global warming? uhoh!

That's a funny point. I guess they think that one night of gleeful waste is worth higher awareness? That's probably the argument, anyway. Seems to me that leading by example would make a better point.

I agree. At least Live Aid + Live 8 had a specific purpose and really did help people. Everyone knows about global warming and what we need to do to prevent it.
So what do we do??
Organize huge concerts! that'll make people aware of global warming, right? because nobody is watching just for the Red Hot Chili Peppers or Madonna - not at all. And in the process, create a whole lot of pollution!! yayyyy.

Great idea- but you KNOW people won't sit around & do "nothing"- They're gonna be out there, spending $$$, wasting lots of energy, & polluting the air, land & water- left & right! So at LEAST by having these Concerts to raise "awareness"- MAYBE it'll occur to some people, "Hmm, maybe we should start recycling..." :) It SURE beats whining & complaining about how hot it is this summer...
Shhhhhhhhh..the treehuggers got duped into thinking all the power is coming from renewable sources! I guess they pulled the electric service from Giant's stadium and plugged it into a biodiesel generator..or then again there are the fake "Carbon Credits" that Al Gore's Company.errrrrr Charity will SELL you!
And I am sure all the entertainment will walk or swim across the ocean to the venue so more CO2 isn't released from their private jets or limo!

Among the steps being taken are:
* All electricity that powers the shows will be from renewable sources, either through utility supplied renewable energy, biodiesel generators, or renewable energy credits
* Concessionaires will be encouraged to use and directed to suppliers of agricultural / biodegradable plastics (i.e. made from corn). Also, concessionaire waste will be minimized through a comprehensive recycling system organized at the venue.
* Venue offices, walkways, etc will be retrofitted with compact fluorescent (CFL) light bulbs, where possible.
* The entire production design will follow sustainable light design principles. Production lighting will include the use of LED light bulbs and production/artist trailers will be incorporate low impact technology in areas such as air conditioning units.
* SOS staff and artist air travel will be offset through carbon credits.
* Ground travel will be hybrid or other clean fuel where possible.
* Hotels will be directed to change light bulbs to CFLs, use nontoxic cleaning products, and have recycling containers present in the rooms.

no. they are using solar and wind energy for energy. theyre going to be recycling EVERYWHERE. and 80% of all money from food, tickets, and gifts goes to global warming efforts. they also show you ways of transport on how to get to the concerts like mass transit, public transportation and carpooling. so no they ARENT using alot of energy. i looked it all up because im going to it .. =]
I have to agree with you on this one. This concert struck a bad chord with me too. The idea of "getting the word out" is great but I looked at the band list and went "Forget it" (but then I'm 46)..so I asked my 17 year old son if he was gonna watch any of it and he looked at the band list and said, "Yeah, right" and went back on his computer (I believe when he got off work, he took his girlfriend out to dinner and bought a book, "Farenhieght 451" by Ray Bradbury).
To the person that envoked how Woodstock changed people's attitudes...you need to do your homework, son. Woodstock was really the culmination of the 60's era and really harkend the closure of it. "Although the festival was remarkably peaceful given the number of people and conditions involved, the reality was less than perfect.", from Wikipedia and also from there, " Woodstock began as a profit-making venture; it only became a free festival after it became obvious that the concert was drawing hundreds of thousands more people than the organizers had prepared for, and that the fence had been torn down by eager, unticketed arrivals." Many interviews I have seen from people who were there say in hindsight Woodstock was not what everyone in history wants it to be...I just saw an interview with a guy talking about Jimi Hendrix amazing performance at Woodstock and he said most of the crowds were gone by then and there weren't too many people left and it was just awful but yet it's hailed as an amazing performance (too bad hardly anyone was there!).
I think people keep coming up with these BIG concerts to try and recreate things like Woodstock and Farm Aid or Live Aid..and you can only make magic happen spontaneously!! You can't force magic..its either there or it isn't. This time...it wasn't there!
