To conserve energy...old toaster oven or new full-size oven?

I'm single, so when I cook I'm usually making small portions. So I've been thinking about using an old toaster oven I had in college (25 years ago) instead of my regular oven. But I'm wondering.do you think it would really save energy? I know that new appliances tend to be more efficient (although my oven is NOT Energy Star compliant) Would a new full-size oven be efficient enough to be better than a toaster oven from the 1980's ?

Answer:
The small oven would have a lower energy usage than the large over. Less space to heat up thus requiring a smaller element. There is the proviso that the old oven may have worn out seals that result in heat leaking out. If the small oven is in good condition it will use less energy than the new big oven.
i think you should use your new one because you could use bigger portions and it might cook faster therefore conserving energy.
It depends on what kind of energy you are trying to save. If you just want to save on your electric bill, get a gas range. If you want to save on your gas bill, get electric. I don't know about a toaster over that's 25 years old (assuming it still works) but I would get it looked at by a professional before you make a decision about it. Yes, it's good for cooking those small portions but you never know if that is sucking the electricity from your house.
i would say use the new one
Why don't you just invest in a new toaster oven? 20 bucks from wal mart. I have one that cost less than 50 dollars, and it has two burners on top and a single-sized coffee maker integrated into it. Saves a lot of time and a lot of heating up the apartment.
To save money, why not find out what the return policy is, and just try a new toaster. This way you could measure the current, and multiply by the known voltage, while cooking the same food (or at least use the same time). Compare the two, and then calculate how long the payback is.

If acceptable, keep it, if not return it.
For a portion size that would fit in the toaster oven, it would be the better appliance energy-wise. It it not heating up as large a volume to cook your meal.
Buy a propane burner oven instead of electrical ones. This, for two reasons, first, the gas oven is warmed as soon as you fire it, so you don`t need to wait to warm up the elements in the case of an electric oven (this warmup take more electricity than cooking your food), and secondly its comes much cheaper to buy propane gas than electricity if you are alone!
toaster oven is cheaper to run.
a microwave may be the cheapest.
