Is there any study on the impact of fluorescent light bulbs and the mercury they contained?
Answer:
Yes, it's been studied and it makes perfect sense. Studies show compact fluorescent light bulbs _reduce_ mercury pollution.
Fossil fuels contain mercury. Using incandescent bulbs causes more mercury to be emitted from power plants. More than the tiny amount (0.005 grams or less) that is in a CFL. And that mercury is blown into the air, instead of being confined in a landfill.
It's better if you dispose of old CFLs properly so that even the tiny amount of mercury is not released. But, no matter how they're disposed of, CFLs reduce mercury pollution.

Most light tubes are considered a Universal waste and are managed as such. They go to a recycle who blows off the end caps (aluminum) has the powder sucked out ( Mercury based) and recycles the tubes (glass).
Business, well smart business, has managed light tubes in this manner for years to avoid potential liability. Households in many states now need to dispose in the same manner usually controlled by state or local government
The amount of mercury in the bulbs is minimal. And the fake "concern" of the anti-environmentalists is just that--fake. Why? Because burning coal to produce all the energy incandescent bulbs use also produces mercury--and a LOT more than is used in energy-efficient bulbs.
Also--the energy-efficent bulbs can be recycled--old style bulbs can't.
There are a lot of people out there that just like to post misinformation. Some are just kooks, some have a warped agenda. You are best served by taking the trouble to get information from real experts--not kooks who done
t even know the basic science.
Shhhh. you'll burst a Greene's bubble. they might actually have to think.
