Stereotype question?

What are some of your confirmation biases, and do you ever try and overlook them?

What happens when you do/do not?

Answer:
Well, I tend to sometimes stereotype Asians as being cold and rude because when I take public transportation, it seems that the majority push me out of the way, cut in line, cough or burp in my face, or yell in my ear. They also seem to want to get away with paying less bus fare by pretending not to know English or by putting on other "innocent' acts. This seems to be mostly older Asians, not younger ones.

I also sometimes think older people are nasty and rude, but this is because my grandma is and I've been conditioned to be wary.

To overlook these biases, I try to treat everyone the same. I smile at people of all races and talk to them assuming that they are just like me-human. I obviously make a point to not judge anyone by my previous experiences or stereotypes, but sometimes it is more of a conscious effort than others.
When black people talk in ebonics, I always assume they are ill-mannered, possibly gangster related, and likely poorly educated. I always try to overlook it but the idea is in the back of my mind.

It doesn't really affect how I act though, not that much at least. In public I treat everyone equally. But if I were walking down an alley, a Black Man w/ Doorag vs. White Man w/ Briefcase, I think I know which one I would be more afraid of...
I try never to take for granted a particular bias when I meet someone. I like to think I judge a person on their individual merit. It is interesting to note though, just how often stereotypes hold true. Not so much on a racial level, but moreso on a social subgroup level. For example: it's a pretty safe bet that some young male (black, white, or otherwise) with pants sagging way down probably likes rap music. Or it's a safe bet that a skinny kid wearing girl's jeans and hair dyed black likes emo.
Unless I get to know someone I usually do not give them the benefit of the doubt, I do sterotype them unless I notice that they are unique, then I just see them as "them" lol.
