Is the human race becoming less intelligent?
Know I later asked if imagination and intelligence were related and many thought yes it is.
It seems to me that people of today use their imagination less. The way people answer questions is a possible proof of this. Possibly this is because the entertainment industry discourages people to use their own imagination.
But, with out imagination are people becoming less intelligent?
Answer:
Human intelligence doesn't change much. What has changed is society's attitude to the less intelligent.
umm ...dunno.....
and i think you meant NOW and not KNOW
yes,yes they are.
not less intelligent, just more cautious, as not to get a violation e-mail.
You really have not defined what you mean by "intelligence". Could you please try again?
on the contrary i mean the smarter become even more intelligent ! until they can be god themselves. and this is very dangerous as pride and ego can lead to our own downfall.
I imagine you are looking for an abstract answer. well my answer is, Two blue squares sitting side by side separated by a yellow wavy line.
Absolutely. I've asked some really silly questions, and it should have been obvious to anyone of the meanest intelligence that they were jokes. One was about festooning my living room with fish for feng shui reasons. I got loads of serious answers, and a few saying, 'This is a joke, right?' DUH! Of course it is!
Trouble is, nobody uses their common sense any more. Use it or lose it. People are so mollycoddled these days that they never get the chance to develop any sense, often including a sense of humour. Sorry, having a bit of a rant there! Feel better now I've got that off my chest!
I don't think we're becoming less intellegent but I do think we're becoming more dependent.
Have you taken a typical cross-section of the World at large?
How can you reach any conclusions if your control group is flawed?
If you used your imagination to create those grammatical errors in your writing, then no.
Besides that, if you're asking whether or not creativity (through imagination) and intelligence are inextricably linked, then most empirical research suggests that this is not the case.
The human race is definitely dumbing down (as seen through everything from language, to media, to education standards and to interpersonal behaviours).
There will always be plenty of imaginative people.
Plenty of intelligent people.
And plenty of buffoons claiming to be asking 'abstract' questions that are, in fact, unimaginative and banal.
[And bored individuals taking a break from their imagination/intelligence to answer them!]
How long have you been thinking about this?.. wellll yes and no, yes some people are theres are shoiws on the TV that say " oh 2/3 of americans cannot remeber their phone numbers" well that shows you right there that some people are just not paying attention to the little things. Another eason why we are getting dumber is because look at the paragraph i have held back but if i were to write it in MY own words it would ALL be shorthand cus im used to things like AIM. Why i say no is because there are people graduating from Harvard and Princeston with stright A's and first in their class, thats contradicting all the people that don't even know theirr home phone numbers. And all the discoreries being made in the science and medical areas are amazing. in maybe 100 years we could have to cure for cancer down. Then we must find a happy medium. my answer to this question is No, the human Race id not becoming less inteligant, but most of the human race is become less willing to learn. The ones that do learn are very properious but the ones that don't forget thier phone numbers.

Maybe people's knowledge is becoming more specialized because that's where the money is.
i dont think the human race is becoming less intelligent..
i think the problem is mainly ignorance..
that is the downfall..
you take chavs on street for eg who cause trouble,if they were guided and motivated they could do anything from becoming prime minister, doctor etc..etc..

It is so in the UK and America and the governments are making it happen. That''s why schools have a limited curriculum and pupils are leaving school unable to read or write. The other reason is because a small drop of mercury is added to the 3Ms injection. It doesn't make the child die or be ill but it does interfere with the brains neurons and nerve endings and pathways. This why neither Brown or Blair will confirm or deny whether their kids have had it. They are social engineering so as to keep the same people in power always. This is the reason why all day drinking and the use of drugs is allowed, it is creating a nation of zombies who will do as they are told without question.
Personally, I'm inclined to answer 'Yes,' though my answer is wanting to prefaced with with a proviso - in wanting to know what you refer to - and just how you measure a level of 'Intelligence' in the first place.
Sash.
I believe imagination is in one way or another inevitable..its just something that comes to you. Now when talking about how far we explore into our imaginations all depends on the opportunity one is given to further expand the ability one is given.
With that in mind i don't think lack of imagination is what makes a person less intelligent..i rather say less intelligence causes lack of imagination.
In other words intelligence is a necessary condition for imagination but not a sufficient one.
All in all i don't believe the human race is less intelligent..but they are lazier and that's another story..for some reason i feel like I'm drifting away from the topic so ill leave it at this.
If one believes in devolution, then you could be correct. If life forms follow the laws of thermodynamics this is most certainly possible.
Offcourse not, the intelligence stays and expands, just like it's been doing for the past 2007 (or more) years. But the way the humans act is more likely a problem. As you say, they lack imagination, that is because their little brains' imagination is allready created by the overwhelming masses of media. When people go to a big-*** sf movie, they walk out talking about how great was, and what an imagination u must have to created such thing, they're given a slight feeling of inferiority (if that's the way to say that). They're also given the feeling that making such thing is to difficult to make, they are mistaken, you just make what's YOU think is VERY ******* awesome and perhaps others will like it to, if not, who cares anyway?
Another thing: don't be afraid to open your points of vieuw with others, what does it matter if they disagree with you?
The Human race is at its highest state of evolution and is still going. Every generation of people is smarter. The proof is in the IQ tests, and technological and scientific advancements. The reason the world appears to be getting stupid is because there are a great many closed minded groups out there who see their worlds coming to an end. And they are trying hard to find new recruits, so that they don't have to face the fact that they wasted their lives on mindless belief.
More and more channels on television have dumbed us all down.
No,not really, just exceedingly lazy. And yes, there seems to be no imagination. I noticed fewer people read books. They would rather watch a film, which in reality, has no comparison to the book but reading and using their imagination is too much like hard work. Computers have also contributed to this downfall of the masses. Very sad and one wonders what the future will bring. Possibly, less inventions which may mean we can all return to normality, like children playing in gardens, reading books, going to the parks etc.etc.,..
Well I wouldn't say that people are becoming less intelligent, I just think that tv are taking over the purpose of the imagenation!
