How are inferiority complex and low self esteem different from eachother?
Or are they same? Please explain..
Answer:
People with low self esteem usually think they just suck at everything. Inferiority complex implies that they feel, well, infeirior. They think everyone is above them, not neccicarily that they can't do a lot of things. But, yeah, I guess you're right. They're very much the same complex.
An inferiority complex, in the fields of psychology and psychoanalysis, is a feeling that one is inferior to others in some way. Such feelings can arise from an imagined or actual inferiority in the afflicted person. It is often subconscious, and is thought to drive afflicted individuals to overcompensate, resulting either in spectacular achievement or extreme antisocial behavior, or both. Unlike a normal feeling of inferiority, which can act as an incentive for achievement, an inferiority complex is an advanced state of discouragement, often resulting in a retreat from difficulties.
In psychology, self-esteem or self-worth or self-confidence includes a person's subjective appraisal of himself or herself as intrinsically positive or negative to some degree.
Inferiority Complex:
A fundamental sense of inadequacy and insecurity out of proportion to real circumstances. An example may be of short individuals who have a driven need to assert themselves in social situations to overcome their sensitivity about their height. (Crystal Reference Encyclopedia)
What is Low Self Esteem?
Low self esteem results from you having a poor self image caused by your attitude to one or more of the above. Example: you do not value the job you do highly or you feel you have no purpose in your life.

Interestingly, it was difficult to find a definition of low self esteem. Most articles discuss its effects and/or what to do about it, but not WHAT IT IS.
