What is the benefits of "Pengawetan Makanan"? Helps please:(?

This is Malay words.

Pengawetan Makanan = Preservering Food

Well the only benefit i know to mengawet (preserve) food is to make sure the food doesn't go bad or expired fast.

Maybe, also, too make the food taste better? With extra nutrition in the preservatives.
