How do you learn to be tough mentally?
I mean it's quite all right for people in general to learn to be tough physically by routine exercises but how about mental toughness? I think there should be some people out there with their practical secrets or tactics in dealing with the matter since in the sometime chaotic world with some unexpected situations, we have no time to feel depressed due to unreasonable causes. Therefore, we need to be tough mentally, work and live as happily as we can.
Answer:
people do this...many write in journals to help them become strong...what this does is help them sort things out which are rolling around in their head and distorting other ideas...it also is a way to give an account of your life...of things important...of lessons learned...it can teach you things...it sounds like you are looking for something more like physical exercise but i am unaware of anything of that type which would actually help your mental status...this approach takes time but seems to be worth it for many people
As in not letting things bother you? I tihnk finding humor in stuff that hurts your feelings or pisses you off is the way to go. Like the bully in my apt complex, he can call me all kinds of names, cause i know his wife weighs 300 lbs more than him and cheats on him while he's stocking shelves at wal mart.
Being tough mentally, goes with a lot of experience and age. When you start to mature, you will realize that the trivial matters that you experienced in the past no longer affects you. When you're young you tend to be emotional but as you age, you will think more logically to any given situation.
It is all about how you look at your problems. You can look at them from a "Woe is me" point of view or you can say "How can I solve this, ow can I change these circumstances"... If something terrible has happened to you , you have to take a step back and say "How does this event really effect my every day life and is it important enough to allow it to ruin every single day of my life hereafter"? I have had my share of tough times in my life... but after years of torturing myself I have come to realize that none of those things matter a hill of beans as to what is going on in my life now. Hope this helps. Good Luck!

I grew up with this through the turbulent 60's. It gave me a sense of self in a world going insane. I have a right to be here...
A word of warning don't ever bottle things up - i do it naturally - and I don't have someone i can just tell my problems to - so they just sit there and stir inside me until they burst out my brains (not literally) anyway, yer there isn't too many advantages in being too tough mentally, i don't feel much at all, it's crappy. So now I post things on FunQA.com in order to sort out my own problems.

7. Stay away from negative people
For me its a will to be strong that gets me through life...Experience and age do play a part but,you can only deal with what is dealt to you personally and how you handle that is an individual thought process...Inner strength is to be admired at any depth,as it is gained through living life in general.however a gentleness must be included to relate to the emotions we & others possess as well.
As I stated in another post I learned to be strong emotionally by realizing that every minute that passes is one less minute that you have to deal with the situation. I know what I'm talking about. I have three disabilities, I have lost 4 siblings to death, I have undergone seven operations most of them before the age of 18 and the first one at the age of 4 months. All of my children have learning disabilities of various degrees. So I have had some experience with having to be strong emotionally.
You do not have to LEARN to be tough mentally it comes naturally. As you get older, day by day as life kicks you in the face over and over again, you realize that you either survive or die. Look back on your life and see the crap that you have put up with from the time your childhood sweat heart told you to get lost to serious illness and/or death of a loved one. You are getting mentally stronger every day. You are doing good and what is expected of you as you are.
Should you hit a mental overload, you will know it as you will be in a mental hospital for a little re-charging. Unless this happens, hang in there . You are right on course and doing well. Note that psychiatrists will seldom classify you as good or bad, well or sick. You either pass in society or you don't.
If you pass in society, be satisfied.
Don't waste your time looking for special gimmicks and tactics. There aren't any. Aspirins do not cure Cancer. If your spouse or loved one is going to have surgery tomorrow with only a 50% chance of survival and the Doctor tells you not to worry that it will not help, can you really say that he is logically correct than go out and party and drink all night since it will have nothing to do with the outcome of the surgery? You know that you can't.
Forget the tactics they don"t work. Shithappens. Concentrate on enjoying yourself and take life one step at a time.
God's power is made perfect in our weakness. We must enter the Kingdom of heaven like a little child. Turn your mind over to Christ. The only solution.
