How should I tell her?
I have depression and I know there are things wrong with me. I have anxiety, and paranoia and lots of other things.. and I have since I was pretty young. It's gotten worse over the years. And now it's pretty unbearable and difficult to deal with on a day to day basis. I've wanted to go to a therapist/psychologist (which one?) for a long time now. But I've never known how to talk to my mom about it. I tried once, but she didn't take it seriously.. she may have thought I wasn't all that serious, but I was. She takes antidepressants.. so I don't know if that will help her understand or not. What should I say to her? And once I'm past that how do I get the help that I need (who do I go to, etc?) I'm trying to take the first step into getting better. I'll be entering my last year of high school.. and I want to have some experience as a teenager to be memorable and good.. and not constantly being depressed. I know I can't do this alone anymore. Any advice would help. Thanks.
Answer:
If you already told your mother and she didn't take you seriously then talk to your father or grandparents, or a school counselor or teacher, sometimes parents try not to take things like this seriously because then they feel it as a reflection on them, and their parenting, But don't give up, and make sure your mother understands that you feel you need help and that is what should be important. As far as Who to go to, try a group class or look up some local names online, if your school counselor could recommend someone then, I would try to use them. make sure you see some who has worked with teens before because it can make a world of difference.
Tell your mother that you feel depressed and want to see a doctor. If she will not help, talk to your counselor at school. Your family doctor should always be your first stop for help.
