Book advise-psychology?

i m intersting in any kind of symbols, how people give meaning to them, how they effect to social life, whether they are used for social control, etc.
i found carl jung's book "man and his symbols". which books do you advise else ?
thanks.

Answer:
If you liked Jung's archetypes, two great books are:
The Heroine's Journey by Maureen Murdock
Awakening the Heroes Within by Carol Pearson
Both deal with archetypes. Enjoy!
A somewhat related area might be social constructionism. A great book by Vivian Burr (called Social Constructionism) talks about many related areas such as language as a "symbol" and Foucault's ideas of the relationship between power, knowledge and discourse.

Foucault is a great read for looking at how symbols can be used for social control, but his writing is heavy, so I suggest you start with Burr.
If you want to expand beyond symbols to the meaning of myths, try reading books by Joseph Campbell.
