Any body who love psycholgy.tell me about frued ideas were true or not?
Answer:
psychology is not an exact science like mathematics, physics. there are no true or false psychological theories. there are several schools of thought, which disagree with Freud, but it does not mean that he did not contribute any thing to psychology. important psychologists of modern era are Freud, Adler and Jung. most of the neo Freudians like Erich Fromm questioned the validity of Freud's Oedipus complex theory. Pavlov, a physiologist radicalized the subject psychology with his conditional learning theory and Adler's style of life theory also differs with that of Freud's theories. but still, in interpreting dreams, and curing pure psychological disorders, Freud's psycho analysis and his techniques of dream interpretation are administered. better you go through the basic works of Freud and Adler and Pavlov and come to a conclusion.
Many of his theories on the human mind are not accepted as fact by many psychologists today. None the less, he still made many ground breaking advances in the field and is still a major influence.
Most of Freud's theories are not as ' accepted' as they once were. Beahviourism and cognitive therapy have replaced him.
Anybody who is interested in psycholgy will tell you he is very important.
No way to answer right or wrong.
How do you expect someone to answer a question like that? Were THey True? Were What True? What Ideas? You NeddTo Ask A complete question,Pick A Paticular Idea That you think Frued had.And by the way,What does it matter to you if his Ideas Were true? What does it matter to you if his ideas weren't true? And who are you going to believe about Frued,He died how long ago,so in order to answer your question someone who was alive when Frued was ,someone who shared his Personal Thoughts and experiences would be someone who would know,Am I right?Or is there some personal diary or writting of Frued that has been Published that would answer this question? In any event What does that mean ? Were Frued's ideas true?.And What would It Mean If Frued"s Ideas Were Not???Frued "s Ideas About What?
A few of his ideas are still accepted, but I think the main reason for his fame isn't the ideas themselves, but what was built off of them.
Wow, lots of great answers.
Freud was an incredible pioneer on how mental illness, etc are viewed. He was a groundbreaker in using metaphors to help explain not only to the general population, but for doctors to speak intelligently, yet plainly to their patients. His views are not generally followed by the norms of behaviorists, but do increase the awareness of human centered, individualistic interpretations of mental illness, phobias, etc.
He was without a doubt one intelligent man... greatly admired in all schools of psych.
I do not love psycohology however the answer if yes and no. Some things are starting to become proven true such as the theroy of psychodynamics. However, nowdays neo-analysits place much less emphisis on sex. Ana Frued, Sigmund Frued's daughter in her own practice placed more emphisis on the ego instead of the id.
What some people might be neglecting is that science isn't a simple series of facts. It is a collection of theories that evolve over time. Very few things are ever held to be completely "true", and it usually takes a very long time and a lot of repetition for that to happen.
Freud was a single man working based on the teachings of his predecessor, Charcot. He gathered data from fairly limited sources in an almost unheard of field. He didn't have other people to base his research on. Even later on in life he had just as many objectors as supporters.
Technically, he was a poor scientist. He didn't follow good rules about random sampling, inferential statistics, empirical data, or outside verification. His work was hardly "new". Even Galen had made reports about the behavioral differences of gladiators who had suffered head wounds. His treatments weren't innovative. The Chinese had methods of dealing with mental illness that had been used for much longer periods of time. Nor have Freud's works stood the test of time very well. Most of what he did has either been disproven, irrelevant, or has been replaced by much more effective means.
But does that make what he found out useless? Not to the people he helped and not to those who since followed in his footsteps. Are his writings "untrue"? Hardly, however they are more useful now as historical documents than scientific ones. Was he really just a charlatan in an expensive suit; a snake oil salesman who intended simply to make a fortune by being just as much a fraud as many other pop psychologists of today? Only one person knows the answer to that, and since he's dead, he's not telling.
