Is antisocially behavior increasing or decreasing in the USA over the last 50 years? If so why?
Answer:
Wouldnt you say so?
Why? Parenting. Its not to point fingers at parents, its to spotlight that there are so many factors that rise up against effective early parenting.
Antisocial behavior spans all class, I believe. The word "struggle" can connote those who struggle any way, which would be incorrect. To what degree, whats the meter?
edit: I ANSWERED IN TERMS OF THE MORALLY BANKRUPT AND DANGEROUS ANTISOCIAL=A PERSON LITERALLY WITHOUT A CONSCIENCE. I did not answer as if the question simply meant are we becoming a society less responsible for ourselves and others.
I feel antisocial behavior is increasing with the increase of technology. Just look, now you can scan your own groceries, go to the bank and use the ATM, get recorded phone calls (soliciting or politically based) and have the recording left on your answering machine all without having to interact with another human being. You can call a company and never actually speak to a human. You can drive and get lost and you need not stop and ask a human directions, you can use your Tom Tom. At work you can just email someone rather than walk to their office. You can order items online rather than call the company and place an order with a person. Then there are bulletin boards and forums online that one could go to so rather than talk to people in their lives about something they can go online and talk. You can go on the internet and ask Yahoo Questions rather than ask friends and acquaintances ;)
Edited to add: I feel the most affected by these are the middle and upper classes as they are the ones who can afford the tech gadgets that enable these antisocial behaviors.
Well, anti-social behaviour is on the increase in the UK, and we usually follow the States...
My best guess is it's a combination of poverty and boredom. We're constantly bombarded with adverts telling us who we should be and what we need to buy to be that person; the average person, earning an average wage cannot afford to live such a lifestyle and must resort to being out of fashion (& favour), or being in debt. Teenagers with parents in this position must either be out of fashion, increase parental debt even more or resort to crime.
In deprived areas, where there is knack all to do - youth clubs are vandalised, playing fields destroyed - crime wins.
It's a horrible indictment of modern society, but really all the financial reforms that were put in place over the last century to prevent a widening gap between the rich and poor have been thoroughly dismantled.
Matt H: read your profile, and no matter what questions my answer my beg, I'm sure that your generation will find the answers you need to rectify the problems, which are manifesting at this point in the continuum that we find ourselves wondering through.
Direct question: Yes education, and the web have made all of us more aware of how our supposed leaders are not truthful, are not trustworthy, and motivated by their own greed, and the greed of their supporters.
The western world as we know it, is in a state of demise. The East is rising, not a bad thing, war no longer works, it all going to be control or resources, which is going to require cooperation. Your generation is cognizant, of those things, even if on a subliminal level.
Those less informed than you are confused, and feel threatened. My best thinking as to why we are seeing more antisocial behavior. My suggestion, stay on the web, communicate, communicate, communicate.
its worldwide mate=world wide=you better believe it kids as young as 9 in England= with asbo orders on them=what a disgrace=we cant control our own kids= thats sad.xx
Well, really it depends on how you look at it. The internet has provided very shy, introverted people with the means to communicate "socially" but behind the safety of a computer screen and so it may seem like since people are able to communicate with this technological advance that they are no longer out and about socially, they are in fact talking with people all over the world by using their computers.
