Answer:
I got to the point where I realized that life is short, and adjusted my paradigm to reflect it. I threw away the societel definitions of success, and wrote down a list of everything I wanted to do before I die. Then I started doing em. Some were able to be accomplished while single, some while married. I've bartended, been in sales, run my own business, traveled overseas, just by having goals and checklists. Life is about developing character, and accumulating experiences and skills that enrich your life. It's not "he/she who has the most toys wins". It's not a competition... it's a journey. I know that sounds trite, but its true. Define for yourself how you measure "success" in all areas of your life, then pursue the path. It's not easy to figure out what you want to be when you grow up. I'm still wrestling with it at 48.
Why don't you go to tools.monster.com where you can take a quiz to see what jobs suit you, post a resume and search employment opportunities all for free?
I still havnt found that path..im in a job that is a good one working for the state at a school and i could make this a stay put career....but is it really what i want to do? Im not sure...Im 24 and young to have the position i hold.so do i stay at this one or follow my child hood dreams to be a police officer? ahhh!! time will tell!
I saw the career counselor at the university I was attending. I took a number of tests, including interest and personality tests, and that helped to get me pointed in the right direction. One of them was called Please Understand Me and it helped me a lot. I know the website Tickle has many tests where you might discover something about yourself that you hadn't given much thought to. Best of luck to you!
Try to sit down and look at your options!, see what you like to do, what is offered to you, what kind of education you have,
And think if You can do something the rest of your life.
Or are you just thinking of getting any job and whereever it takes you?. good luck though!
I have found that we tend to have fanciful dreams when we are young and then continually change them on any whim.

I personally didn't attempt to set a particular path for my life. I only knew that to be successful at something, I needed a well rounded education which touched on all aspects of learning, from the arts to the hard sciences.

I kept my options open and then struggled through several occupations until I found the one that I had a passion for and a level of ability that would allow me to excel.

So, in my case, I tried to maximize my options and then let life take its course.
