Please help! i'd love you foreverrrr. reviving ophelia.?

i have to write a book report on reviving ophelia by mary pipher. the first few paragraphs have to be a summary, and i think i'm pretty set on that but the rest of the 6 pages have to be a book review. I'm not big on writing book reviews so if anyone can tell me anything helpful or send me any sites that have pre-written essays or reviews, PLEASELEASEPLEASEHELP!

thanks in advance. and i'd totally love anyone who answered this.=]

Answer:
First of all reviving Ophelia is a wonderful and very important book. I hope you read all of it!

Basically a book review is a bit of what the book is about, what parts of the book struck you and your own ideas and opinions about the book. In Reviving Ophelia you could talk about the types of problems girls are facing and how society is effecting teenage girls' mental health, what types of things are working to correct these problems and what things are actually making the problems worse. You could talk about weather or not you agree that these things are true, give examples from your own life, or people you know., you can even cite other books, web sites, etc. which also may address some of the issues in Reviving Ophelia.
Please don't use pre-written essays or reviews. You won't learn anything, and teachers are experts at detecting them.

You might want to read a few book reviews in the papers and magazines to see how the experts do it. But I would consider including at least the following:

- how does this book compare with others by the same author (assuming that she's written others) and what does this show about her development in style and content?

- how does this book compare with others in the same field?

- how do feel about the book's pace and timing? Does it hold the attention all the way through?

- how well is it written, in absolute terms and in terms of the audience it's aimed at?

- I don't know the book, but if it's got any element of suspense or detective work, does it feel fair on the reader? (I personally get really annoyed when authors introduce key characters or events part-way through)

- does the author have any stereotypes (e.g. the upper-class British twit), how does the author handle men and women - Tolkein, for example, notoriously doesn't write about women with anything like the same energy and insight that he writes about men.

- how did you personally react to it? Did you enjoy it? Who were your favourite characters, and why?

Some of these point may not be relevant - as I said, I haven't read the book - but I hope they give you some structure. And remember that if you've been asked to write a six-page review (which is quite a big task) somebody trusts you enough to believe that you can do it on your own.
Sweetie you read the book, so you understood the messages and the points the author was trying to convey that's what you need to put into your own word in a book review

that is the best way to go
