Can you be autistic or have ADD and not know about it?
Answer:
I have ADD. I just can't focus. I tend to avoid things that may make me think hard and I procrastinate. Even wen someone's talking to me up close i just wander off. And wen someone lectures somehow my brain just drifts off thinking about something else. I also get overwhlemed alot and end up staying til midnight doing my homework. And also wen i read books i have to read lines over and over until im actually paying real attention unless i read it out. I'm getting better because i'm conquering my procrastinating and i started yeasterday exercising my brain. Today reading a book i didn't even hav to read lines over and over again. And i actually got to reading my book early insted of putting it off. This school year it's going to be hard but i'm going to be more organized and im actually going to keep things in folders onsted of just saying am like ive done the last few years. I'm trying harder this year and i think i can get over ADD.
The person afflicted may not be aware, but those around him most certainly should. And someone with autism really wont be able to answer this for you darlin.
autism? i think she means Attention Deficit Disorder and the people that have it are not "retarted" they are able to answer questions and think just like you ..i had it for years as a child and eventually grew out of it (or so i thought) and i think it is coming back to me as an adult. it is hard you are never satisfied doing 1 thing at a time, you have a VERY short tempered and, cant pay attention to someone talking to you. I recently took a test for a collage for Adult version of this disorder and it seems that i still have it and i didnt even relize it
Yes, many sufferers are unaware of their formal diagnosis until something happens that warrants an investigation.
They usually know that "something" is wrong, because they can see that they're different from their peers. They may just appear a bit "odd".
It would be unusual for someone to suffer both these disorders. Also, there are many different forms & levels of autisim. For example, someone with aspergers may live a fairly normal life with their condition, without the symptoms being too noticeable or interferring too much in everyday living.
I do not feel children are aware. But I have known adults who know for a fact and have been professionally diagnosed with ADD.
I didnt know I had ADD till in my 30's. It made everything make sense for me after I found out. It was mostly like a learning disability. It took longer for things to click for me. Teachers (elementary school) thought I was a little slow sometimes and put me in a special class for help. But I was great in the slower class and not so good in the regular class. I was called lazy, alot. But when I got to high school things started to make more sense to me and in college it was much better. Perhaps because by that time I had learned how to adapt a bit better. I had to try at things harder than others. I had to have a schedule to keep me on track. And I couldnt have distractions on like a TV or music for example. Routine is good for ADD and autism. Autism is a little different. They can be super at one thing, like music, and then have no reading capability. They usually have a harder time communicating also. Social skills can lack too. A much more serious condition. There are many levels of Autism also. Its hard to figure out when a kid is young, but will show up more and more when they grow up.
.
Things are a lot different now a days. They have so much help and resources, people have a better chance of catching these things early. The earlier you get help the better!
I hope this helps you
Autism is something that if you have it even slightly you can tell by lack of social skills but amazing genius skills fore example what day of the week is april 2 in the year 3000. If you have add you would know because you wouldnt be able to focus.
