Why are people interested in cars?
Answer:
Nice cars indicate speed and status. In the human "race," blatantly visual symbols of power and wealth are attractive signals of the ability to provide, and provide well, a huge evolutionary advantage. Because so many Americans spend so much time in their cars, they often see it as a way of projecting themselves to the world around them. Thus, many will choose a car that they feel reflects their personality, as previous answerers have stated. Men are generally more fascinated by cars than women, traditionally being the more ego- and power-driven of the sexes, and the traditional "providers."
Of course, I must stress that I am not trying to be sexist in any way here. I believe women are just as capable as men, but these ARE the undeniable evolutionary roles. Maybe we'll be past that someday, but who can deny that the sexes are different?
most of the people use that solely for transporatation when they are too busy and their schedule is very hectic and do not want to take buses...
I think people see cars as an extension of their ego. Also, people view autos as a way of expressing how successful there are. Sad but true.
Many people have cars, some view that relationship very differently then others.
My biggest object of having a car is to get from point A to point B.
Some see their car as a projection of themselves.
Muscle Car = Muscle Man
Expensive Car = Wealthy Man
Sports Car = Not a Couch Potato
Do they really tell us anything about us:
Some do, most don't!
One can go on and on.
I have never driven and never will but I have a bicycle although I rarely use it now - too many cars on the road!
For men cars are an extension of their personality - and it brings out the competetive streak in them - I noticed that even as a little girl when my brothers (helped by my Father who was worse!) made a go-kart.That was in the 1960s when you *could* play on the street!
Others say a car is an extension of a part of their anatomy - and the smaller that is the bigger/faster/more "powerful" car they have - but I couldn't possibly comment!
Best wishes,
Joan.
The cars save a lot of time and the time is money.

They derive value for themselves from external objects. They are not worth much without those objects; they are admitting this through their lust for ugly cars. Cars are like umbrellas; they only exist to get the job done.
I don't, either.
It's like houses. Cars are for transportation and houses are for shelter. But we always want the best looking one, because they seem to show the wealthiness of the owner. And so like you'd talk about how beautiful your house is, some people would talk about how fast or how shiny their cars are.
