Does intelligence quotient mean anything anymore since nobody can agree on how to measure it?
Answer:
The standard IQ tests are imperfect, to be sure. But they do provide an indication of what to expect of a person's performance in respect to "cogitation." Low scorers tend to process information less well than high scorers. This is assuming that there is no cultural bias in the test. That is why they tend to write tests that avoid such biases, using things like folding shapes, and sorting pictures of things into categories. But when math or words get into the test, there are problems with sorting out education vs. lack of it - it is sometimes assumed that a person does less well with math and language skills because they are less capable, when in fact it could be that they were un- or mis- educated in these.
So sure, there are problems, but in the end, there is a rough estimation of status.
the future is in being balanced... being yourself, unique, different is good... explore what that means to you.. and grow with it.
Apparently so since some lesser colleges still award scholarships based on those arcane tests. @8-)
A high scorer is smarter than a low scorer, whatever the reasons.
I'm sure there are people who are more intelligent than it would seem. I blame it more on the parents then I do the teachers. Too many parents don't emphasize how important an education is & they don't make their children do homework or study. I couldn't go outside or watch tv until I did my homework. I believe that they are 'dumbing down' the test to accomodate the less advantaged and I don't believe that should be done. Many people who come from poor homes do well because they have parents who care. I come from a poor home & scored in the upper quartile. Maybe kids should ask their parents to become better parents.
PS: I don't think spell check is working; I think I misspelled two words.
