How can I learn to be more self confident? What can I do? What should I do?
Answer:
Hi Sally! Would you like an answer from someone like myself who is self confident? First of all, I'm a graduate of Rational Emotive Therapy. Psychological therapy along those lines taught me to change the way I feel by changing the way I think. So here are some things I do to boost my self confidence.
1). I know my strengths. I made a list of the things that are strong about my character and looked at that list. This gets rid of the committee in my head that says that I'm worthless by having my strengths in front of me.
2). I made a list of the things that I seek in a significant other. I made the list as long and detailed as possible. I was then asked which of those qualities I found in myself. I found few. And so I was then encouraged to bring out those most endearing qualities in myself.
3). I made a gratitude list and I focus on those things I am grateful for. Two thoughts cannot occupy the same space at the same time. It is impossible to be grateful and lack self confidence at the same time when I think about all the things I'm grateful for.
4). But the most important thing that I did to boost my self confidence was to create my own reality. I have learned that I am whatever I claim and that what I claim nearly always comes true. Those who say that they always win everything, do. And those that say that they never win anything, do. The key for me was to envision in my mind exactly what I wanted in minute detail. And low and behold, it came to pass. I got everything I have in my life that way - friends, job, Scrabble rating - everything. I would encourage you to invest in the book, "The Secret," or in spending the $4.95 to watch to move (www.thesecret.tv) and see if it doesn't change your life just as it changed mine. Enjoy the jouney and may you experience the joy as I have creating my own reality!
