Worried about new job?

A few months ago, I had the good fortune of landing a good job after graduating college. So far, things have been decent, but I always have this lingering feeling of having my head on the chopping block.

I'm pretty confident about my work, but I usually find it filtered so much by revisions that it makes me think that there's something wrong with it. In addition, I get little to no direction on how I should improve even though I do genuinely try to do my best. Also, I feel like my presence is undervalued. A newer hire got to manage an event with myself relegated to an assisting role, although I've proven myself time and time again in similar situations.

It also seems like my boss never really sees the best side of me. I either get too nervous around him, or mess up a little since I'm new to the industry. I was picked from thousands of applicants, but it feels like I'm letting him down.

With all this, I am paranoid about getting laid off or being expendable. What can I do?

Answer:
it's usually to feel likie that when you are new employee, you feel like you have to prove to them that they were not mistaken in giving you that job, but in time you'll get use to everything, for now try to be yourself and do what your suppose to do, the best you can, dont try too hard, ok?
What you can do is talk to other employees at your workplace. Not approach them for no reason, but when you have something in common with them (like the one you assisted in that event) go to them, and ask them what they liked about it. Also ask them what they thought the boss liked about it. Then ask them about other things similar they've done.

Bit by bit, you can put together a list of positive results just by talking to co-workers. A lot of them would probably like having someone ask about their work and their opinions on the work (if they're not too busy). Tell them you want to improve your job-tasking methods and they will most likely give you a pointer or two.

Meanwhile, try imagining your boss in his underwear walking around the office (or something silly like that). It's like stage fright, give yourself a distraction, and it doesn't happen (or at least not as bad). Then relax a bit, do what you know, and try to do a little better each day. Eventually someone will notice, and them mention to the boss what good work you're doing.
