World of Warcraft bad?
I'm talking about health reasons, not if it is a good game or not.
Answer:
It sure sucked me in for a good 8 months, and I found it to be quite unhealthy. Physically and otherwise. My wife was often pissed at me, I didn't exercise as much, and I probably let my hygiene go a bit too.
it is more than healthy to have a violent outlet that takes no violence to participate in
yea my lil bro goes to school with kids seriously addicted to it
yes the game is made to be addictive on purpose..blizzard wants the montly fee to keep rolling in..to anyone who ends up getting addicted (and a lot of ppl do) it can be very unhealthy..you stop eating, sleeping, seeing friends, hygeine goes down the tiolet and so on and so on
there are many documented cases of divorces and people losing their jobs or flunking out of school because they play this game
I have put 11 realtime days into my main character and spent time playing with several alts but i can go days without playing! I don't find it addictive like some other people may!
It allows me to vent my frustration to a specific target which could of been misplaced somewhere else!
The only thing i can say is you seem to slip into your own little world whilst playing it! IE you sit down for a quick session and before you know it you've been playing for 7 hours with nothing to drink/eat, no toilet breaks and no natural light!
Never played, can't comment - however, I suspect that South Park was not far off the mark when they did an episode on it.
I do find the whole online gaming thing a little worrying from the physical fitness, eating properly, meeting people in the flesh aspect. It forces people into their own internal space, which makes them disassociated with reality.
As far as violence goes - we are a violent species, and simply outlawing killing will not stop this - hence the prolifereration of games that allow for loads of killing. It's simply the modern day equiv. of the Roman arena. Can't help but think it would be more honest somehow, if we did still have arenas and ppl did get to fight each other and die.
Just like anything in life, it's only as unhealthy as the person on the other side of the computer. If you're allowing yourself to neglect important aspects of your life, it's more an issue of self-control than placing blame on the product itself.
Think about it... what differentiates World of Warcraft from any other hobby? Watching television, reading books, browsing the internet, etc. None are "healthy" and aren't advertised as such. It's what you do with your other free time that decides if you stay healthy or not.
As far as the purposefully addictive question, again it's self control. The American Medical Association just recently voted to not label video game overuse a psychiatric addiction.

I think Blizzard found a formula for a fun game seeing as how this isn't the first nor the latest MMO to hit the market and yet it still has 8 million+ subscribers.
I suggest you get the free 14-day trial and give it a whirl. I think your reaction to it might be the best answer you could ever get.

i think it would be good if for some strange reason, they shut the game down.
everyone would be so much happier.
