A functional brain never discounts any possibilities.
That's hardly scientific method now, is it?
Judaism (Torah), Islam (Koran) and Christianity (Bible) all begin with "In the beginning was the word and the word was God and he created the Heavens and the Earth".
Since all three religions disagree so vigorously with each other and they can all agree on that one thing, it's actually a good place to start.
If you want to read in a Bible where it says implies there's more than one God, look at Psalms 82. If you want to see interpretation of that, look at John 10.
If you believe a lot of eastern religions, the ether is awash with Gods.
You see, if you want to find out about "God" or "Gods" you HAVE TO include religion as thats where God(s) is/are defined.
But if you want to look at nature for the answer, I'd say there could only be 1 God.
All animals generally have some sort of individual as the head of the pack/hive/moot. It's natural to form a heirarchy with 1 strong individual in charge at the top.
And since only 1 set of natural laws apply, it would not do to have multiple gods messing about with what we call the natural order. In the human world even a simple difference of opinion can cause chaos - can you imagine what would happen if there was a struggle for control of the very laws of the universe?
But one thing is certain, a man can by his actions send himself to happiness or despair and thus be his own Buddha.
I believe that there is a higher being and that man creates his own version of that God, whether it be Jesus Christ or Buddha. Man seems to have a need for this and it's found in all parts of the world. I find it hard to believe that only one set of people would be right, therefore, it's so senseless that we have wars based on religious differences.all points of view seem to be based on being a good person. So why are people thinking their religion is the "only right one"? I don't understand it! I agree with what you said!
No, there could not be more than one God, because if God is infinitely all powerful; it would mathmatically impossible to have another entity that was all powerful.
Why would God ask us to "put no other gods before me" if there weren't other gods? However, I believe He was talking more about things we worship, like material things. As for another being... I agree with what the guy above me said (Mark R)

From an anthropological view, I think it's built in us to worship a higher being. Practically every culture on the planet has worshiped something at one point in time. Plus scientists can't explain why in the stratospheric layers there's nothing, then BAM life. I do think the bible is the word of god however, I don't think there's one surpreme religion, be it christian muslim , buddist, etc. I can do things that can't be scientifcally explain, but they happen. Like creating energy balls using tai-chi.
