Am I really THAT ticklish!?

I've previously submitted a tickle question similar to the one I'm about to ask, but a little different.

My older sister & sometimes my dad have a tendency to try to tickle me whenever they feel in a mischievous mood, my mum too, actually (when we don't all hate each other, that is, LOL!).

A few evenings ago, my sister & I were sitting at my PC as I was helping her to download some songs for her gym class. She was hyper-active and really happy that day. She was also acting quite mischievous and every single time I began to feel nervous about her tickling me, I began to feel as though I was ACTUALLY being tickled even though she didn't lay one finger on me! I was worried about her going for my sides & it was my sides that felt like they were ACTUALLY being tickled!

What's wrong with me? How can I feel like I'm ACTUALLY being tickled without even being touched? It just doesn't make any sense. Is there something wrong with my body or am I just extremely ticklish?

Answer:
Your brain has an amazing way of filling in the gaps (we have all seen the trick pictures like "is it a vase or two faces"). Anticipation is a major part of tickling. Half of the torture in tickling is due to the person knowing he/she is about to be tickled. For me it's torture to see a wiggling finger getting closer and closer to my armpit. The fight or flight feeling takes over, adrenaline starts pumping, and laughter isn't that far behind. That may be a reason why people consider laughter and tickling to be beneficial...all of the endorphines that are released.
Your skin is just super sensitive. it's not your fault, your natural instinct is to feel it ahead of time and react and to be ready. your just more in tune with your surroundings than other people.
I'm like that too. I cannot stand the thought that someone is about to touch me and I always brace for the shock, if that makes sense. :)
I'm the same way. I can't stand being tickled. Growing up all someone had to do was show me their hand like they were going to tickle me and I'd squirm, yell and move away.

Still today if someone tried it they are in danger of being hurt. I will kick them to get them to move away from me. lol

You are not alone. A lot of people are like this because my sister, cousin & all 3 of my kids are the same way they laugh & wiggle even if you are not touching them.
They've got you all psyched out with tickles.
No, you're not weird.
From the time I was in high school
until around age 25 my 3 friends
hung out with me a lot, and one of
their fave things was to tag-team
tickle-torture me to the point of death.
I got so if any of them sat or stood too
close to me I would start to feel freaky,
like their hands were already tickling.
I'm way ticklish, so I am a perfect victim.
But after I moved away for a job the
feeling left, and though I've been
tickled several times by people,
it's not been the same psych as it was.
Pretty much in the same boat with you there. Tickle tortured by two older brothers for my whole life. There are times where if a hand even moves in my general direction I'll go into defensive mode. Nothing's wrong with you. You're just, like me, "lucky" enough to be rediculously ticklish.
No that wouldn't mean there was something wrong with you. I do that to. Some times my mom tickles me and I laugh before she gets me.
sometimes if your thinking about it then you really think you can feel it... that happens to alot of people. sometimes when i play with my kids, i hold their arms up and pretend i'm tickling them but never really touch them and they laugh hysterically like it tickles so much. i think it's so funny because i never even lay a finger on them. i think the same goes with other feelings, if someone is about to get a spanking they will start yelling ouch before they are even touched. i think just imagining these feelings causes us to really think we can feel them.
