How is emotion generated?

Answer:
emotions may be generated by the brain(and i kinda go with the psych-geek-supremo's lizard/mammal/cognitive brain-structure analysis - you can actually see the different sorts of brain you find in lizards(instinctive)and mammals(emotional) underneath the purely human cerebral(cognitive) stuff but how you experience them is affected by your thoughts which are, in turn, affected by your experiences, including all the choices you've ever made(!)...a good example is men reacting to fear with aggression...and they'll tell you they were angry if you ask 'em about it afterwards, NEVER scared.and women who react with tears when they are angry and will tell you they were sad about whatever it was but NEVER angry! this seems to be changing as the families and societies we absorb along the way are changing.

i write emotional literacy programmes and find that the more people examine and work with their emotions the more easily they are recognised and expressed, but what i find really interesting is how much clearer people's THINKING becomes as they develop emotionally. i kind of think of instinct and emotion as the horse and thought as the rider...the goal in more advanced humanistic therapy is to transform this duality into a centaur(!) and all you have to do to get THERE is answer one simple question.
what's the meaning of life?
By conscious choice.
Through a complex series of brain functions and controls! that i have no willing to explain at this date in time. because that just the way my brain is telling me how to feel :)
Definition of emotion

Emotion is complex, and the term has no single universally accepted definition.[1] The study of emotions is part of psychology, neuroscience, and, more recently, artificial intelligence.

According to Sloman,[2] emotions are cognitive processes. Some authors emphasize the difference between human emotions and the affective behavior of animals.

In Paul D. MacLean's classic Triune brain model, emotions are defined as the responses of the Mammalian cortex. Emotion competes with even more instinctive responses from the Reptilian cortex and the more logical, reasoning neocortex. However, current research on the neural circuitry of emotion suggests that emotion is an essential part of human decision-making and planning, and that the famous distinction made by Descartes between reason and emotion is not as clear as it seems.[3]
